SEEKING THE FOLLOWING:

*All actors should have excellent comedic timing and will play other characters as cast.

MANNY – Male, Latinx, 30s-40s
Manny is a paleta (popsicle) vendor. In Quijano’s fantasy he plays Quixote’s righthand man Sancho. This is a part Manny is game to play, if only to keep an eye on his friend. He is funny, all heart, and knows more than he leads on.

PAPA CALACAS – Male, Latinx, 30s-40s
Papa Calacas or Papa Muerte is leader of the Calacas (skeletons) here to usher in the end Quijano’s time on earth. A troubadour of sorts, he leads the Calacas in song. He is super macho and all knowing.

BRUNO – Male, Latinx, 30s-40s
Bruno is the bartender and co-owner of Rosario’s Lounge and Karaoke, the local bar. He is a man with unwavering authority, gusto, and a great sense of humor. He keeps the severed finger of Pancho Villa as a souvenir.

DULCINEA – Female, Latinx, 30s-40s
The woman of Quijano’s dreams who appears as an apparition, pushing him forward on his quest to find her. She is passionate, desirable, and idyllic. She is the embodiment of a woman from across the border who Quijano loved in his youth.

ANTONIA – Female, Latinx, 20s-30s
Antonia is Quijano’s dutiful niece and Magdalena’s daughter. She is determined to take care of her uncle all by herself, and fights against her mother’s wishes to send him to a nursing home. She is compassionate and intelligent, but in a little over her head when it comes to her uncle.

MAGDELENA – Female, Latinx, 50s
Magdalena is Quijano’s younger sister. She took him in when his health began to deteriorate but has since grown resentful of her brother and the extra stress he brings on the family house. She is exhausted and out of options.

JUANA – Female, Latinx, 30s-40s
Juana is Manny’s wife and the mother of their children. She is sassy and pragmatic. She is not happy about Manny’s current expedition and promises that whatever trouble he might get himself into won’t compare to the trouble he is in at home.

PADRE PEREZ – Male, Latinx, 50s (will understudy Manny’s track for 2 performances in Hartford)
A man of God. Close to the family and close to the community. Humble and compassionate, but not much tolerance for the demons he thinks possess Quijano.

*ACTORS NEED TO BE AVAILABLE FOR ALL 3 RUNS

CAMP DAVID
by Lawrence Wright
Directed by Oskar Eustis
Neuhaus Theatre (LORT C)
First Rehearsal January 14, 2020. Performances February 14 to March 15, 2020

JIMMY CARTER (54), president of the United States, who enjoyed some of the highest favorability ratings ever, but has seen his stock plummet. He came from Plains, Georgia, as Deep South as it is possible to get, but he was the first Southern governor to explicitly say it is time to put racial hatred behind. An evangelical Christian, Carter believes that God put him in the high office to bring peace to the Middle East. No one else shares his optimism. He can be idealistic, but essentially he is an engineer who believes that all problems can be solved. Sometimes the human dimension escapes him, however.

ROSALYNN CARTER (51), also from Plains, is homespun but deeply intelligent. She sees people as they are, including Jimmy, whom she has known all her life (she was born next door to him). Candid and unvarnished, she recognizes the limitations of her background but doesn’t shrink from stating what she believes. She has a solidity that Jimmy can’t do without.

ANWAR SADAT (60), the president of Egypt. Handsome and charismatic, Sadat is confident in his friendship with Jimmy. Sadat is dark-skinned, and even in Egypt this means he was the subject of racial discrimination. He has an open, engaging personality but can be imperious and careless. Like Carter, Sadat is devout, believing that God has given him a destiny to lead the Egyptian people out of their constant state of war. He is daring, and hardened by years of prison—a trait he shares with his greatest adversary, Menachem Begin.

MOHAMMED IBRAHIM KAMEL (51), is Sadat’s former colleague in the anti-British underground. They spent time in prison together. He is now Sadat’s foreign minister. In contrast to the natty and ebullient Sadat, Kamel is frayed and anxious. He also feels the weight of history on his shoulders, but worries that Sadat will make concessions that will lead to Egypt’s disgrace.

MENACHEM BEGIN (65) has the bearing of a Polish count. He is brilliant but doctrinaire; his courtly manners disguise the terror he feels that he may be forced to make a concession that will lead to Israel’s destruction. Having lost his parents in the Holocaust, Begin is determined that he will never permit another historical catastrophe for the Jews. He is cool, didactic, and Intellectually ruthless.

MOSHE DAYAN (63) is the famous military leader responsible for the stunning victory in the 1967 Six Day War. He is also the man blamed for the stunning failure of Israeli forces to anticipate the Egyptian invasion in 1973. He is recognizable the world over because of his black eye patch. The Egyptians fear him as their most formidable enemy. Begin made Dayan his foreign minister, giving him renewed political life and opportunity to reclaim his former glory. He is also dying of cancer, a fact that no one else knows.

AMERIKIN by Chisa Hutchinson
Directed by James Black
Neuhaus Theatre (LORT C)
First Rehearsal April 7, 2020. Performances May 8 to June 7, 2020

POOT SPANGLER-- late 30's/early 40's, white, Jeff's best friend. He's probably the smartest guy in their circle, but lotta good it's doing him stuck as he is in Sharpsburg, MD. Agreeable, funny, has had sex with probably half the women in town and workin' on the other half. Empathetic sometimes to a fault.

ALMA TILLERY -- late 30's, white, Jeff's ex and next door neighbor. A no-nonsense nurse and decent human being. She's friendly but can be kinda flat-footed when forced to suffer foolishness.

DYLAN HOFFENBERGER -- mid/late 40's, the kind of white guy who thinks Sicilians may as well be black. Very non-PC, to put it lightly. Tribal, patriotic, deeply invested in family and tradition.

MICHELLE BROWNING -- late-30's, white, Jeff's wife. She might actually be pretty cool if she weren't going through postpartum real bad right now. She actually thinks about stuff, but no one's ever asked her what she's thinking about. Everyone down on her for being promiscuous (because double-standard), including Jeff. But she's trying to suck it up and function despite the lack of support.

CHRIS LAMOTT -- 20, black, Gerald's daughter. Her intellect is undeniable, and the wryness of her humor sometime makes it hard to tell when she's joking. She admires her dad enough to follow in his footsteps professionally, but as a budding militant, has a hard time accepting his diplomatic approach to politics.
