BREAKDOWN
2 PIANOS, 4 HANDS by Ted Dykstra and Richard Greenblatt
TED (male, 20s-40s, any ethnicity): An aspiring concert pianist. Over the course of fifteen years, Ted, along with his friend Richard, learns the basics of the keyboard, competes against other children, gains experience in a wide range of musical styles, develops a more sophisticated perspective about his musicianship, and ultimately, as an adult, comes to terms with how his larger dream eluded him. The performer playing Ted must be (a) a strong actor who can deliver a grounded, honest performance and (b) an expert-level pianist. Both actors will play multiple roles throughout the play and will be expected to perform complicated piano selections from a variety of musical genres.
