Spectrum Stories comes to the Des Moines Community Playhouse Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, from 1:30-2:30 PM. Registration is $5 per participant at the door. Pre-registration is availible online at dmplayhouse.com and is highly encouraged, although drop-ins are welcome. Spectrum Stories is sponsored by Fareway Economical Food Stores.

Spectrum Stories is an afternoon of drama experiences tailored to best support the development of pretend play, social interaction, and non-verbal communication. Each session is meticullously planned to enhance creative expression of spectrum youth. The Cats of Mrs. Calamari, by John Stadler, will launch the activities on Oct. 13. (Dog lovers are welcomed too.)

Developed with the guidance of Professor Gretta Berghammer of the University of Northern Iowa and the Sturgis Youth Theatre, Spectrum Stories utilizes story, music, and art to bring imaginations to life. Upcoming Spectrum Stories dates are Oct. 27, Dec. 1, 2018; Jan. 26, Feb. 16, Mar. 30, and Apr. 20, 2019.

The Playhouse, now in its 100th season, is one of the oldest and largest community theatres in the US. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
