The Upstart Crow Presents THE LION IN WINTER

THE UPSTART CROW PRESENTS THE LION IN WINTER
The Lion in Winter plays at the Dairy Arts Center August 16 - 26, 2018

Eleanor of Aquitaine (1124-1204) ruled one of the wealthiest territories in England, was sought after by Lords and Kings alike, became Queen Consort of both France and England, and is considered one of the most powerful and wealthy women of her era, despite spending 16 years imprisoned by her second husband Henry II, from 1173-1189. Her intelligence, wisdom, wit, and powers of persuasion jump off the history pages and directly into the context of the modern feminist movement. As far as possible from a shrinking violet, Eleanor persevered for 80 years to outlive four kings: two husbands and two sons. THE LION IN WINTER by James Goldman explores the fascinating life of a passionate woman who refused to be a passive prisoner in her own home - both literally and figuratively. THE LION IN WINTER performs at The Dairy Arts Center 2590 Walnut St, Boulder, Colorado. Tickets are on sale now at bit.ly/theupstartcrow or by calling 303.444.7328.

During Christmas of 1183, Eleanor of Aquitaine has been temporarily pardoned by her husband, King Henry II, who had her imprisoned years before for her many attempts to overthrow him. With her fleeting freedom, Eleanor quickly manipulates her three sons, John, Geoffrey, and Richard, into scheming against one another for the throne. Along with Princess Alais and her brother, King Philip of France, THE LION IN WINTER portrays an articulate, witty, and dark comic view of the medieval (and perhaps modern) dysfunctional family.

Tickets for THE LION IN WINTER start at $25. Seniors and Students (with ID) $21. Thursdays are Name-Your-Price Night: No set price or suggested donation. Audiences are asked to judge what they feel is an appropriate amount and leave it in an unmarked envelope at the end of the evening (No reservations accepted; first come, first served). To purchase tickets for any performance, visit The Dairy Box Office or call 303.444.7328.
