square product theatre is partnering with the newly founded Non-Binary Monologues Project to present "TesserACT: Dimensions of Gender (or Queernomicon at Comic Con)," which will run for only two performances in Boulder before heading to Denver Comic Con, where it will be presented as part of Page 23's Lit Con.

In "TesserACT," co-written by the ensemble with additional submissions from writers across the country, three queer nerds embark on an epic quest to destroy the gender binary.

"We're very excited to partner with the Non-Binary Monologues Project on this project," says Emily K. Harrison, square product theatre producing artistic director. "The performance will focus on Comic Con themed material as a means to subvert the traditional comic book ideal of the 'superhero,' serving instead to empower the voices of transgender, non-binary, and queer folx, and envisioning a future in which we make room for all heroes."

Boulder-based performer and founder of the Non-Binary Monologues Project K. Woodzick agrees.

"The superheroes and cartoons we grow up with are some of the first and strongest images of identity, gender and authority figures we encounter as humans," Woozdick states. "This is why the exploration of representation of characters from the ComicCon cannon is crucial to uncovering some of the reasons our culture is still so enmeshed in the gender binary. Our hope is that this work will help audiences unpack their own relationship with gender and expand their awareness of the multitude of genders that queerness contains."

"And along with learning about different ways of being that they may be unfamiliar with, we think audiences will have a lot of fun at this show," added Harrison. "The gender and sexuality spectrums can be confusing to some at first, but "TesserACT" is a fun, irreverent, and ultimately nerdy look at the ways we're influenced by cultural icons, like superheroes."
