Review: ON YOUR FEET: THE EMILIO AND GLORIA ESTEFAN BROADWAY MUSICAL Energizes at Victoria Theatre Association

Put on your dancing shoes and make your way to the Schuster Center this weekend to see ON YOUR FEET: THE Gloria Estefan MUSICAL.

ON YOUR FEET, with book by Alexander Dinelaris featuring music produced and recorded by Emilio and Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine, tells the story of the rise of the career of Gloria from her childhood aspirations to her brilliant comeback after a life-threatening bus accident in 1991. Estefan, both as a soloist and lead singer of the group The Miami Sound Machine, was a major force in the music industry in the 1980s and beyond with numerous number one hits, several Grammy awards and sold out tours around the world. Gloria and her husband/producer, Emilio and their perseverance were responsible for bringing latin music into the mainstream in the United States. If you are a fan of her music or if you have never heard it before, there is still something for you in this production.

The shining star of this show was the Sergio Trujillo's choreography. HIgh energy, mesmerizing dancing from the entire company brought the entire theatre to life along with the actors on stage. Christie Prades is terrific as Gloria particularly with the triumphant "Coming Out of the Dark". Eddie Noel (Emilio) and Nancy Ticotin (Gloria Fajardo) were at their best with the poignant "If I Never Got to Tell You" and the audience loved Debra Cardona as Gloria's Abuela Consuelo. The ensemble pours their hearts into every note and every move making for a very enjoyable performance.

Five shows remain to see the national tour of ON YOUR FEET, this weekend at the Schuster Center for the Performing Arts at 1 W. Second Street in Downtown Dayton. Tickets are available at www.ticketcenterstage.com, by phone at 937-228-3630 or in person at the VTA box office in the wintergarden of the Schuster Center.
