Shakespeare Dallas Launches Summer Season With Two Comedies

"Sit by my side, and let the world slip" as Shakespeare Dallas performs two iconic comedies for its 2018 season of Shakespeare in the Park.

The summer 2018 season will run June 6 - July 15, and will include Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors and Taming of the Shrew, performed in repertory at Samuell Grand Amphitheater, located at 1500 Tenison Parkway, Dallas 75223. All summer performances begin at 8:15 p.m.

"This summer season will offer some crowd favorites, with two very popular comedies from Shakespeare's repertoire," said Raphael Parry, Executive and Artistic Director of Shakespeare Dallas. "We are also excited to mark this summer with the directorial debut of Jenni Stewart, who is a tenured executive with Shakespeare Dallas, and has been newly promoted to Associate Artistic Director for the company. This will be an exciting summer for us!"

The Comedy of Errors will perform on Saturdays, Sundays and Tuesdays from June 6 (Preview Performance) - July 15, and will be directed by Mr. Parry. Taming of the Shrew will run Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from June 13 (Preview Performance) - July 13, and will be directed by Ms. Stewart.

Comedy of Errors

Antipholus and Dromio arrive in Ephesus in search of their long-lost twin brothers, unaware that their father, Aegeon, has also arrived there on the same quest. As a citizen of Syracuse, a city at war with Ephesus, Aegeon has landed illegally in Ephesus and is arrested and condemned to death unless a ransom is paid by sunset. Unknown to all of them, the lost Antipholus and Dromio have been living in Ephesus for many years. On Ephesus, the strangers find themselves greeted like old friends. Antipholus of Syracuse finds that he has acquired a wife, and everyone in Ephesus seems to be behaving very strangely.

Taming of the Shew

Set in Padua, the play centers around the merchant Baptista and his two daughters. Suitors pursue the younger, prettier daughter, Bianca, who cannot be married before her strong-willed sister, Katherina. Once Kate is married off, her husband devises a plan to "out-shrew" her, and turn her into an obedient wife.

Tickets are $10 on Thursdays and Sundays and $15 on Fridays and Saturdays. Students and seniors pay reduced rates, and military personnel and their families are free.
