Jessica Lang Dance Comes to the Gettysburg College's Majestic Theater

Immerse yourself in the beauty of movement and music with Jessica Lang Dance (JLD) Company at the Gettysburg College's Majestic Theater on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 sat 7:30p.m. As one of the most celebrated choreographers of her generation, Bessie Award winning Jessica Lang has paved the way for female-driven contemporary ballet. Her work seamlessly incorporates a range of inspirations, including visual art, theatrical lyricism, human anatomy and the nuances of bodily gesture, forming breathtaking compositions. "Jessica Lang Dance is one of America's most exciting, young modern dance companies. Her choreography is athletic, accessible and attractive," remarked Jeffrey Gabel, Majestic Theater Founding Executive Director. "It's the perfect program for first-time dance goers."

Under Lang's leadership and creative direction, JLD has made rapid success performing at renowned venues and festivals throughout the country. Lang, whose 100th ballet recently premiered at Lincoln Center under commission from Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, has created original works for American Ballet Theatre, Pacific Northwest Ballet and the National Ballet of Japan, among many others.

Since the company's inception in 2011, JLD has been devoted to enriching and inspiring global audiences. JLD's diverse repertoire of original works embodies a genre-bending contemporary movement style that resists categorical definition. Hailed as "a master of visual composition" by Dance Magazine, Lang seamlessly incorporates striking design elements and transforms classical ballet language into artfully crafted, emotionally engaging works that feature gifted, graceful, and athletic performers. JLD's trajectory is strongly influenced by a commitment to artistic collaboration with such renowned artists as architect Steven Holl, costume designer Bradon McDonald, lighting designer Nicole Pearce, and composer Jakub Ciupinski, as well as visual artist Shinichi Maruyama, among others.
