Rhinebeck Writers Retreat To Receive $10,000 NEA Grant

National Endowment for the Arts Acting Chairman Mary Anne Carter has approved more than $27 million in grants as part of the NEA's first major funding announcement for fiscal year 2019. Included in this announcement is Rhinebeck Writers Retreat's award of $10,000 for their musical theatre writer residencies and Triple R program - 2 readings and a residency.

NEA Acting Chairman Mary Anne Carter said, "The arts enhance our communities and our lives, and we look forward to seeing these projects take place throughout the country, giving Americans opportunities to learn, to create, to heal, and to celebrate."

Rhinebeck Writers Retreat's Founding Executive Director Kathy Evans added, "We are honored to receive our third NEA award from our peers in musical theatre. We are dedicated to serving musical theatre writers in the creation of this uniquely American art form, and we are accepting applications now for our 2019 residencies. Created in 2011, Rhinebeck Writers Retreat provides a sanctuary for writers to develop their new musicals in the heart of the Hudson Valley. Musicals developed in Rhinebeck have been seen across the country at The Public Theater, Barrington Stage, Second Stage Theatre, Playwrights Horizons, The Old Globe, The O'Neill, and Paper Mill Playhouse. All costs for the retreats are covered by contributions, including from the NEA, New York State Council on the Arts, The ASCAP Foundation Bart Howard Fund, and The Noël Coward Foundation.
