ARTS46/4 Presents POV: The Seven Deadly Sins, a Curated Gallery Exhibit and Ekphrastic Event On Saturday, June 16th, at 6pm, ARTS46/4 presents POV: The Seven Deadly Sins, an ekphrastic event in conjunction with the curated exhibit on display in the on-site art gallery at First Unity Spiritual Campus. The gallery is open on Sundays between 9:30am and 1pm, and can be viewed by arrangement during the week. The exhibit hangs through June 30th, and all of the art is available for purchase.

The exhibit features artwork from 14 diverse, accomplished local artists: Carrie Jadus, Suzy Schultz, Frank Strunk III, Spathose, Cora Marshall, Jennifer Kosharek, Leslie Bestulic, Ungala, Nathan Beard, Janos Enyedi, Matt Lunsford, ZuluPainter, Charlie Parker, and D. YaeL Kelley. On June 16th, seven writers - Andrew Meacham, Elizabeth Brincklow, Shelly Wilson, Gloria Muñoz, Arin Greenwood, Heather Tinnaro, and Lisa Powers Tricomi - will be assigned to a piece in the exhibit and then given one of the Seven Deadly Sins to use as a writing prompt for creating a literary interpretation of that piece. Spectators will have a chance to experience the exhibit for themselves before the manipulated perspective is presented, and the writers will be the ones presenting their own work.

First Unity's dedicated arts branch, ARTS46/4, named for First Unity's location on 46th Avenue and 4th Street North in St. Petersburg, reaches the mid-point of its five month arts initiative with June's tribute to Visual Art. From April through August, each month represents a different arts discipline. April featured Literature, May features Dance, and June features Visual Art. In the remaining two months of the initiative, July is the month for Theatre, and each Sunday, a different local performer will appear as a special guest in the services and on July 20th, the Campus becomes the stage for an original work of immersive theatre. Finally, August celebrates Music, with an unconventional chamber music concert that incorporates elements of dining and conversation on August 24th featuring the Ibis Quartet.

"Art is born of inspiration, which is spiritual in nature, and through a spiritual practice, we work to master the art of being alive," says Becca McCoy, who devised ARTS46/4 on behalf of First Unity. "Art and spirituality are both integral to deepening our human experience, and ARTS46/4 is designed to allow one to augment the other. This inaugural initiative is to explore what is possible and establish ARTS46/4 as a partner for future creative collaborations in the community."

First Unity is well-equipped to serve as an Arts venue, with a 5,400 square-foot Sanctuary space whose pews are being replaced with chairs to allow for flexible seating configurations, recently upgraded theatrical sound and lighting, projection capabilities, hardwood platform and separate music stage, visual art gallery, reception areas, and ample free parking.

JUNE is VISUAL ART

Saturday, June 16th, 6-8pm - "POV: The Seven Deadly Sins"

A curated exhibit of pieces from local artists will be on display. Writers on hand will each be linked to one of the pieces of art and then given a writing prompt: one of the Seven Deadly Sins. They create an "Instant Ekphrastic," (ekphrastic means "to use words to describe art") which is then read aloud. Artists' intentions meet viewers' perspectives and get manipulated by a specific point-of-view: how does the interpretation of art shift when processed through a filter?

Tickets: $15

The artists are Carrie Jadus, Suzy Schultz, D. YaeL Kelley, Zulu Painter, Jennifer Kosharek, Nathan Beard, Cora Marshall, Charlie Parker, Leslie Bestulic, Matt Lunsford, Ungala, Janos Enyedi, Spathose, and Frank Strunk III.

Writers scheduled to participate are Andrew Meacham, Arin Greenwood, Lisa Powers Tricomi, Heather Tinnaro, Elizabeth Brincklow, Gloria Muñoz, and Shelly Wilson.
