Lonny Price Will Direct Canadian Prom Musical THE LOUDER WE GET at Theatre Calgary

BroadwayWorld has learned that Lonny Price will direct a production of the musical THE LOUDER WE GET at Theatre Calgary as part of their 2019/2020 season. The musical features a book by Kent Staines, Lyrics by Akiva Romer-Segal and music by Colleen Dauncey. The new musical previously received workshops at the Sheridan College's Canadian Musical Theatre Project which was the incubator which launched COME FROM AWAY.

In addition to creating the role of Charley Kringas in the original Broadway cast of "Merrily We Roll Along," Lonny Price directed Glenn Close in "Sunset Boulevard," Audra McDonald in "Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill" and "110 in the Shade," Danny Glover in "'Master Harold' ... and the Boys," among other Broadway and West End credits.

He also directed the stage and film version of "Sondheim: The Birthday Concert!," for which he won an Emmy. His collaborations with the New York Philharmonic include the Live From Lincoln Center broadcasts of "Camelot," "Candide," and "Sweeney Todd" (which earned him another Emmy, as did his production of "Sondheim's Passion").

Price's documentary "Best Worst Thing That Ever Could Have Happened" draws back the curtain on the creation of "Merrily We Roll Along" and tells the stories of the hopeful young actors whose lives were transformed by it. The film premiered at the New York Film Festival and was named one of New York Times' Top 10 Films of 2016.

Destined for Broadway, this dazzling new musical follows the compelling and inspirational true story of Marc Hall as he navigates the Catholic school system to fight for his right to take his boyfriend to prom. With colourful pop-inspired songs and heart-warming unity, you won't want to miss this electric love story at Theatre Calgary.

The Louder We Get, as Prom Queen the Musical, received developmental workshops at Sheridan College's Canadian Musical Theatre Project, Theatre Aquarius, and the Segal Centre, and debuted in October 2016 as part of the Segal Centre's 2016/17 season in Montreal.

The production will have set design by James Noone, costumes by Cory Sincennes, and lighting design by Jason Hand.
