2019 OSCARS Predictions: Who Will Win?

"The Oscars" airs live this Sunday, February 24, on The ABC Television Network and it will broadcast in more than 225 countries and territories. The ceremony will be host-less for the first time since 1989.

Everyone is talking about who will win during film's biggest night, and BroadwayWorld is here to give you our predictions!

Roma has been the favorite (not favourite) to win Best Picture after winning the BAFTA, Critic's Choice and DGA awards. The film is a semi-autobiographical film about director Alfonso Cuaron's life in Mexico and is an intensely personal and moving story.

Best Director

Cuaron won the Golden Globe, Critics' Choice, DGA and BAFTA awards for Roma, and it wouldn't be a surprise if he won on Sunday.

Best Actress

Melissa McCarthy, Can You Ever Forgive Me?

This was a close call, but I believe that Glenn Close will win the Oscar. Olivia Colman is the close second, in my opinion, but the Academy tends to lean for the more dramatic performances, and with Close never winning an Oscar, this could be the performance that brings it home for her.

Rami Malek is definitely the front-runner in this category, because despite of what you think of the film's story, Malek's portrayal of Freddie Mercury is an incredible one, and it doesn't hurt that the winner of this category has been an actor starring in a biopic 11 times in the last 16 years.

Regina King, If Beale Street Could Talk

Rachel Weisz, The Favourite

If Beale Street Could Talk is a film that should have gotten more recognition, but I believe that at least Regina King will win for her beautiful performance in such a passionate film from BARRY Jenkins.

Best Supporting Actor

Richard E. Grant, Can You Ever Forgive Me?

Green Book has received a lot of praise during awards season, and Mahershala Ali is expected to win for his portrayal of Don Shirley.

With the WGA Awards win, Can You Ever Forgive Me? surprised those who expected BlacKkKlansman to take home the prize, and I think this film may be a surprise winner at the Oscars.

This was a tough one for me, mainly because I'm almost sure Green Book will win, though I don't believe it deserves it. Of the film's nominated, Roma or The Favourite deserve the award, but I agree with the WGA who awarded this to Bo Burnham's Eighth Grade, which was overlooked by the Academy.

Alfonso Cuaron directed and filmed the film he wrote, Roma, and I believe that he deserves the Oscar for cinematography, because his film was beautifully shot and really evoked emotion.

Mary Poppins Returns

Although Mary Poppins Returns also is very deserving of this award, in my opinion, I think Black Panther will take it with its Grammy-winning soundtrack of songs from Kendrick Lamar and SZA. It also helps that its one of two Best Picture nominees, that traditionally have a leg up in this category.

Honestly, I'd be surprised if "Shallow" didn't win. This song has won basically every award its been nominated for and I think everyone wants to see Lady Gaga win an Oscar. (Lets get her that Tony next!)
