Julia Adam Dance Presents QUINTESSENCE, Blending Art, Food And Nature In Beautiful West Marin

Julia Adam Dance is pleased to present QuintEssence, the fifth installment and culmination of the renowned elemental series that immerses the audience in an experience for all the senses. Atop the expansive Big Mesa Farmstead in West Marin, July 6 - 8 and 13 - 15 with sweeping views of the West Marin hills, QuintEssence explores the ethereal fifth element drawing from the previous four years in the context of LOVE.

Come partake in a transformative experience of locally sourced food and open-air ballet featuring choreographer and former San Francisco Ballet principal Julia Adam and her corps of elite dancers joined this year by renowned former San Francisco Ballet Ballerina Joanna Berman coming out of retirement for the event.

Julia Adam Dance is an evolving collaboration and literal marriage between former dancer and choreographer Adam and her husband Aaron Lucich, a producer, rancher and agricultural activist. The two have cultivated a rich team of talented artists and artisans who will create their magic again this summer.

"We are excited to continue our commitment to the environment and community through this wholly immersive experience bringing together dance and local gourmet cuisine in a beautiful outdoor setting," said Adam, co-founder of Julia Adam Dance. "We set out to create an authentic experience not easily found in the modern world. Each year seems to go deeper. It's as if all participants, whether our team or the attendees, bring something special, which makes each evening unique and complete. It's really starting to have a life of its own," added Aaron Lucich.

QuintEssence is the fifth installment of Julia Adam Dance's series that is designed to spark the wisdom of what ties us together through community, art, food, and the natural world. Each evening starts with a multi-course, Farm Table feast served family style utilizing transparently sourced food from the local bounty of Marin and Sonoma Counties. Chef Matt Roberts returns to coordinate a diverse, talented team of chefs through the six-night culinary adventure including an authentic Spanish touch of Paella by retired San Francisco Ballet dancer Ruben Martin. Local purveyors include Big Mesa Farm, Gospel Flat, Star Route Farms, True Grass Farms pork and lamb and Lucich's Holistic Ag Beef. Wines from Enkidu, and beers and non-alcoholic libations curated by Mojo.

After dinner, guests gather with steaming cups of sipping chocolate and meander to the open-air stage for the world premiere of the latest ballet from Julia Adam. This year Julia's ever evolving team of dancers will interpret her unique brand of story-telling as it continues to morph with spoken word, song and broad exploration beyond the fourth wall as she weaves elements of the previous four years into a theme which is quintessentially about the heart.

A limited number of tickets are now on sale for the six gatherings of QuintEssence during the weekends of July 6 - 8 and July 13 - 15, from 5pm - 10pm at Big Mesa Farm in West Marin. Tickets are $200 and available at JuliaAdamDance.com.

About Julia Adam Dance

Julia Adam Dance is a cultural experience designed by producer, rancher and agricultural activist Aaron Lucich and his wife dancer and choreographer Julia Adam to connect people to each other and the environment through food and art. Together, they have built a team of talented artists to present an event like no other.

Julia Adam hails from Ottaway, Ontario. At age 13, she entered the National Ballet School in Toronto and, upon graduation in 1983, spent five years with the National Ballet of Canada. She joined the San Francisco Ballet in 1988, becoming a principal dancer in 1996. Among the choreographers that created works for her are Helgi Tomasson and Mark Morris. In 2002, Ms. Adam retired from dancing and quickly gained recognition as one of the dance world's rising talents in choreography. In 1993, she choreographed her first ballet, The Medium is the Message for the San Francisco Ballet's Choreographic Workshop, drawing attention for her uncanny wit and unique sense of music. Since 1996, Ms. Adam has been commissioned to create over 50 works for San Francisco Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, and more. Ms. Adam has been featured in Dance Magazine and has received the Isadora Duncan Award for Choreography.

Aaron Lucich, a communications professional from the SF Bay Area, spent the last decade researching and documenting the leadership of ecological agriculture. In 2012, after some soul searching and discovering that he wanted to contribute to a survivable future, he founded Holistic Ag an ecosystem services company that advocates, promotes and practices holistically managed land stewardship and agricultural production. On this journey, he has managed farming operations and brand development for Traders Point Creamery in Zionsville, IN and consulted to numerous land-based organizations including the Sustainable Studies Institute in Corvalis, OR, ZZ2 in South Africa, the MA Center in San Ramon, CA and Biological Capital in Denver, CO.
