Conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto concludes a busy 2017 - 18 season of critically acclaimed performances with orchestras across the United States, Mexico, and Europe, including several important debuts. In his 12th season as Music Director of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO), Prieto led the orchestra in its Carnegie Hall debut with a program honoring composer Philip Glass. Earlier in the season, Prieto made debuts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. He builds on this success with a contract extension with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, and by furthering his commitment to nurturing and guiding young musicians in performances in New York and Miami with Carnegie Hall's NYO2 initiative as well as the Orchestra of the Americas tour of Europe.

Continuing an excellent artistic relationship with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra where he has been music director since 2006, Prieto has signed a contract extension through the 2021 - 22 season. Prieto and the LPO have been part of the cultural revitalization of New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina, and have achieved great artistic success. Earlier this season, Prieto led the LPO in the orchestra's Carnegie Hall debut, leading a program of Revueltas and Philip Glass, as well as an encore featuring a world premiere by Gabriela Ortíz. Reviewing the concert for The New York Times, Seth Colter Walls said: "Mr. Prieto's feel for subtle shifts in dynamics created an environment both dreamy and dramatic."

In addition to this past season's highlights with the LPO, Prieto also made acclaimed conducting debuts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and London Philharmonic Orchestra. He continued his long support of music by Latin American and Mexican composers during his Los Angeles Philharmonic debut with the LA Phil New Music Group, leading a program of world premieres by contemporary Mexican composers, including Édgar Guzmán, Juan Felipe Waller, Ivan Naranjo, Diana Syrse, and Alejandro Castaños. Four days later, Prieto made his debut with the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducting Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 with Hannes Minnaar and Rossini's Stabat Mater with an international cast of singers. During the 2017 - 18 season, Prieto made guest conducting appearances across the globe, with orchestras including the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, RTE National Symphony Orchestra, Beijing Symphony, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, The Hallé, Frankfurt Radio Symphony, and many others. He also continued his work as music director of the Orquesta de Naciónal de Mexico in Mexico City, a role he has held since 2007.

Prieto is involved in several festivals and tours this summer, starting with the Mozart/Haydn Festival in May and June with Mexico's Orquesta Sinfonica de Minería, where Prieto has been music director since 2008. Prieto will lead concerts with the Orquesta Sinfonica de Minería and the Orquesta de Naciónal de Mexico across the summer, through September. In July, continuing his dedication to nurturing some of America's most gifted young artists, he leads Carnegie Hall's NYO2 initiative, a free program that brings together outstanding young American instrumentalists (ages 14-17) from across the country for intensive training and performance opportunities. Prieto, alongside New World Symphony Fellows and alumni and other professional musicians from leading American orchestras, will train and educate the younger musicians, and lead them in performances at Miami's New World Center, as part of NYO2's new partnership with New World Symphony, on July 21 and in New York at Carnegie Hall on July 24. In July and August, Prieto continues his work with the Orchestra of the Americas, an ensemble he has been involved with since its inception in 2001 and which he has been music director since 2011. He will lead several concerts on the Orchestra's European Tour, conducting works by Barber, Bernstein, Chavez, Copland Montero, Tchaikovsky, and Villa-Lobos, in Lus?awice, Poland; Wiesbaden and Hamburg in Germany; and in Edinburgh, Scotland as part of the annual Edinburgh International Festival.
