It's All True @ National Sawdust

Based on the complete live archives of the underground band Fugazi, this titillating, bizarre piece of theatre accosts the senses and is sure to leave a lasting impression. It's not the calmest start to your weekend, but boring is tired--try something new.

Friday, August 10 - 7:30pm

Mark Morris Dance Group @ Rose Theatre, Jazz at Lincoln Center

As the Mostly Mozart Festival winds down, check out the Mark Morris Dance Group's long-standing love affair with classical music as they tackle works from Monteverdi, Brahms and Schubert. The group finds much of their musical inspiration from classical works not immediately associated with dance--and that's part of what makes their interpretations so inspiring. You're sure to see something fresh, sexy and revelatory as you discover new nuggets within these compositions.

Saturday, August 11 - 7:30pm

Mozart's Requiem @ Geffen Hall

Look, it's not going to be a particularly uplifting evening--but Mozart's Requiem is not to be missed. If you remember when my heart fell onto the floor during the Philharmonic's live orchestral presentation of Amadeus, this recommendation will come as no surprise. The first half of the program features his Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major which should lift your spirits a bit before dashing them with the heartbreaking beauty of the Requiem. The concert won't rev you up for a rocking Saturday night, but it will prep you for an evening of necessary cuddles.

Sunday, August 12 - 2pm

Don Giovanni @ La Mama

End your weekend with a bang and come see myself and other rock star talents tell the tale of the ultimate #MeToo violator. I may be biased, but I believe Don Giovanni is one of Mozart's greatest operas and with Owen Horsley's poignant direction--the afternoon promises to leave a vivid imprint. I hope to see you there...
