Award-Winning Composers Create Original Compositions For Silent Classics At SILENT FILMS LIVE

Angel Velez, Conductor and Education Through Music-Los Angeles Associate Board member, presents Silent Films Live 2. Sponsored by BMI, this star-studded event brings together highly-acclaimed film, television, and visual media composers to reimagine and create new scores for classic silent films. Adding to the silent film era theme, the event will take place at Bandrika Studios, a space custom-built to showcase Hollywood's original 1,500 pipe Wurlitzer organ. The pipe organ dates back to 1928 when it resided on the Fox lot and was used in classic scores including Journey to the Center of the Earth and Patton.

Each evening of the two night event, May 3rd and 4th, will feature the silent film concert at 8pm, with exclusive tickets available to attend a pre-concert interview and reception featuring a discussion with the composers moderated by record executive Robert Townson. Additional limited tickets are available to tour Bandrika Studios and the Wurlitzer pipe organ. Original promotional art for Silent Films Live 2 will be auctioned off each evening. Tickets available at http://www.silentfilmslive.com/.

The event will kick off each evening with a live-to-picture performance of Toccata for Toy Trains with original score by Elmer Bernstein (Magnificent Seven, Ghostbusters) and new orchestration by Emilie Bernstein (World at War, Black Ops) followed by original compositions for the following silent films:

Der Golem - with music by Composer Nathan Barr (The Americans, True Blood)

Trip to the Moon - with music by Vocalist/Songwriter Lisbeth Scott (Iron Man 2, Spiderman)

Battleship Potemkin - with music by Composer Fil Eisler (Empire, Shameless)

Jekyll and Hyde - with music by Trumpeter, Pianist, and Composer Arturo Sandoval (The Mambo Kings, Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient)

Ben-Hur: A Tale of The Christ - with music by Composer Sean Callery (24, Homeland)

The Immigrant - with music by Composer Blake Neely (Supergirl, The Flash)

Downhill - with music by Composer, Orchestrator, and Arranger William Ross (The Tale of Despereaux, Ladder 49)

Proceeds from the event support ETM-LA's In-School Music Education Program, which provides comprehensive music education to at-risk schools in underserved communities across Los Angeles County.
