Wheelock Family Theatre Announces ROALD DAHL'S JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH

Wheelock Family Theatre at Boston University announces Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach featuring words and music by Tony, Oscar, Grammy, and Golden Globe Award-Winning Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, book by Timothy Allen McDonald, and based on the book by Roald Dahl. The WFT@BU production, directed by Artistic Director Emily Ranii with musical direction by Matt Stern and choreography by Juanita Pearl takes place April 12 through May 12, 2019 at 180 The Riverway, in Boston's Fenway neighborhood. Performances run Fridays at 7:30pm and Saturday/Sunday matinees at 2pm. Tickets are $20-40 and may be purchased by calling 617-353-3001 or online by visiting https://web.ovationtix.com/trs/dept/1292. Student and group discounts are available and special 1pm performances run during April school vacation week (4/16 -19). ASL and AD performances are May 5 at 2pm and May 10 at 7:30pm.

Orphaned at a young age, James goes on a fantastical quest for family and home. His travels on a giant peach with five oversized insects reveal that love goes beyond differences, beyond one's very species, and gets at the core of who each are. With music and lyrics from the creative team behind The Greatest Showman and Dear Evan Hansen, this musical is recommended for ages 6+.

"Ladahlord, leader of our vagabond troupe of players, travels from theatre to theatre telling the story of Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach," shares Director Emily Ranii. "As Ladahlord dares James: 'Are you willing to reach into the great unknown and see what bizarre adventures the universe may have in store for you?' he demonstrates that James and the Giant Peach is all about curiosity and embracing the great unknown."

"McDonald's libretto features a series of parables on acceptance," Ranii continues. "For example, the Centipede is a 'specist'--meaning that he's afraid of all humans and goes so far as to judge James at first sight. But when James saves the Centipede's life, the human-sized insect learns that his intolerance was keeping him from a world of possibility."

"The amazing score by Ben Pasek and Justin Paul perfectly complements Roald Dahl's fantastical world, "shares Musical Director Matt Stern. "With a zany variety of styles from bluegrass to sambas and everything in between. The cast is putting in a lot of hard work to bring this beautiful and exciting music to life for our audiences, and we can't wait to share it."
