George in DC said: "Until Broadway ticket services allow late minute cancellation and exchanges, you are going to get sick people going to the theatre. Nobody is going to lose a couple hundred dollars if they have a mild cold.

This is why most of my theatre money goes to subscriptions in the DC area. With any of my tickets I can call as late as one hour before curtain and they will exchange , no questions asked
"

The tickets for Stereophonic in my section last night were $40.  It was a performance they sold at this price . But I get it.

In regards to performing while sick, there's numerous regional and summer stock theaters they don't assign u/s.

Ages ago, I got called in for a production of A Chorus Line because the actor playing Don had a serious stomach virus. I drove 2 hours at 9am on a Thursday to do a two show day without a put-in & having (at that time) never done the role previously. Had to have a different costume because the original actor was about 6 inches shorter than me, too.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Personally, I had tickets to Ain’t Too Proud I had to exchange as I had an endoscopy ending up on the same day (and they say do nothing for 24 hours after anesthesia). I was so happy I could just log in and move my ticket around without issues.

One thing I found on accident when moving my seat for Stereophonic for May was that the promo code EXCHANGE seems to work on Telecharge across the board. So if you’re ever in a jam, give that a shot
"

What, exactly, does the EXCHANGE code do? (I just checked it out, & I didn't see any price changes.)

Also, in a slightly different way, I can totally relate to the main idea of this thread: How a show experience can be affected if you're not feeling well and/or able to be totally invested in the show.

Actually, I had a ticket for last night's performance of Stereophonic that I exchanged for one in mid-May. - Why? Because after buying the ticket, I found out that it's was my cousin's son's Communion that day (a ceremony & party involved). - When I realized that the event would follow a tiring work week & start earlier than I'd like on a Saturday, I said to myself, " Do I really want to see a 3 hour drama, after all of that? If that ends up being the first time I get to sit down...in the dark too...is the week going to catch up to me & thus, I'll miss much of the show?" - So, prioritzing my ability to see the show feeling my best & most alert, I got new tickets on a better day!

I flew into New York from Los Angeles specifically to see the revival of FOLLIES, with friends, in 2011. We had a great dinner at Ruth Chris before the show. About 20 minutes into the first act, I started to develop some of the worst indigestion and heartburn I’d ever experienced. In agony, I stayed for the whole show as I didn’t want to leave my friends. After the show, I bravely exchanged pleasantries and made a beeline back to my hotel for a shot of Pepto Bismol…which helped immeasurably.

The next morning. I went online and purchased a great 8th row center orchestra seat and attended FOLLIES by myself that evening…and loved it. For me, butter-drenched ribeye on a 500 degree sizzling plate…and Broadway…do not mix!
