Hey ya. I figured you all were a good group to crowd source a gay-themed monologue for an upcoming audition. I was thinking something from Boys in the Band, or something in that vein. Any ideas? I feel like something from Angels in America is too obvious.

The whole opening monologue from TORCH SONG (TRILOGY)

THE BOYS IN THE BAND doesn’t really have any monologues from what I remember.

In Significant Other, there's a part where Jordan takes a long time explaining what it would be like to be in a relationship with his crush. I cant remember the details, but it ends with something like "I wonder what it would be like to wake up everyday with my shoes next to his". I thought it was really beautiful

The original two act version of BOYS IN THE BAND has a monologue for Michael in the first act if you're interested.

How is ANGELS more obvious than BOYS IN THE BAND?

But speaking of the latter, doesn't Emory have a monologue in connection with his phone call in Act II of the original?

Even better, you can find anthologies of gay plays in the library (and probably at Amazon). Why not read a bunch of plays rather than relying on whatever comes first to poster's minds here?

  3. Billy’s Monologue in The Goat or Who is Sylvia
  4. Jeffrey
  5. Shopping and F*CKing
  6. A Great Wilderness,
  7. Gross Indecency

I pieced together a monologue from "The Boys in the Band" by Emory before his phone call. It got me into NYU's Tisch School of Arts.

Babe’s spoken sections of “The Beat Goes On” from THE CHER SHOW. You can’t get any gayer than that, mon ami. A sure fire HIT!

I believe Samuel French might have a book of monologues for gay characters.

Depending on how specifically gay-themed it has to be, there's Vanya's critique of the modern world in the second act of Vanya and Sonya and Masha and Spike.

Martin Sherman's Gently Down The Stream also has many monologues.
