The first 11 minutes of the episode are here, with all the queens entrances!

I'm most excited about Brook Lynne Hytes. And I know this is against popular opinion, but I find Miss Vanjie to be obnoxious and grating.

Well, that opening sure was quite a mouthful of new drag names to learn! Wondering why so many of them end in Davenport? After the relatively easy coasting with 10 queens on All-Stars, it's back to Drag U to keep straight all 15 contestants on Season 11. I'll watch, of course, but please wake me when we're down to 9 or 10.

They all look like the messes who usually go in the first 5 episodes.

I kind of agree with you, Impossible. The first thing I said to my friend after watching the preview was “I smell some filler queens.” I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of the episode, but given this is probably the most time they’ll have had to prepare a look the whole season, I’m mostly unimpressed.

I am 100% here and on board for Silky Nutmeg Ganache. I’m utterly delighted by her. I can also see myself enjoying Brooke Lynn Hytes and Vanjie (god I love her).

Agreed, Silky and Vanjie (who was ROBBED last season and I'm so glad she came back) are the only 2 who remotely interest me. Though my undying love for Coco Montrese has me interested in her 'daughter' as well. We'll see I guess.

Woof. That was tough to see my friend go home. I know, she did poorly, but it was tough seeing her because I knew what pain she was in. I told her to re-cyst and move on.

Wow.  That has to count as the single least compelling episode of Drag Race ever.

These are some ROUGH queens, y’all. Oof. That runway was a mess. It’s annoying too because now we won’t see another sewing challenge for weeks and some of these queens who are “legendary” but have zero imagination are just going to coast by on outfits someone else designed. And some of these queens clearly have ZERO imagination or design skills.

Still here for Silky, 100%. I hope she works on her design skills though and uses her time in the workroom for more than just being ridiculous (although, damn that is some good tv). Also, loving Brooke Lynn Hytes.

I don't know who was more annoying Silky or Miley, what a pair of attention seeking hags.

The rest of the show was just a bore to get through.

Seems like it'll be a looooooong wait til we separate the wheat from the chaff here.

Silky onstage is pretty terrific, but lord, Silky as a boy in the workroom was one of the most trying things to sit through. And it's been a while since we've seen so many ugly men in dresses walk the Drag Race runway, but last night was a new low bar. I can only hope they do a series of double-eliminations soon to thin that damn herd.

Is it just burn-out on my part?  I'm wondering if having this season come so soon after a season of All-Stars doesn't have something to do with my lack of enthusiasm.  It's just all feeling very familiar, the queens all seem like I've seen them all before...

^I think part of the problem is we also have a surfeit of Drag-family relatives this time too. So many O'Hara's, Andrews, Davenports, Montrese's, etc. I get why baby-queens would want drag mothers to give them serious pointers and a leg up in the business, but this allegiance to a drag-family tradition that some of the queens seem to be laboring under does not help them break out and say "Here's who I am" when they're finally standing on the mainstage on their own.

Here's a  good youtube critique of Drag Race in its current state

I have to agree with every point this guy makes. There hasn't been a clear story arc in years, making the wins feel uninspired. Violet Chachki and Aquaria had zero story arcs, making their wins feel underwhelming and undeserved.

I've been watching since season one. I don't want to sound contrarian, pining for "the good ole days" but I miss this show when it was on Logo, and the queens were more authentic. The manufactured franschise monster it's become bores me. Now, every queen enters the work room polished, face freshly filled and botoxed, with a well rehearsed tagline.

I'm still a big fan and I watch some of the supplemental YouTube shows (namely Trixie and Katya's "UNHhhh" and Raja's "Fashion Photo Ruview" )  but even those have suffered under the weight of what Drag Race has become. Episodes are highly edited and censored and the only way you can watch episodes uncensored is to pay WOWPresents. The popularity of RuPaul's Drag Race has turned the queens into weird spokespeople for cultural appropriation, which has never really been the point. There was a time when they were allowed to be human. Sometimes being bitchy and bawdy, telling dirty dick jokes, and throwing shade. Which is all apart of Drag as well. Now the queens are bleeped on YouTube and afraid of their fanbase if they misstep on the show.

Anyway, RuPaul's normally cool reserve during the critique portion of the show has been "warmed up" quite a bit by producers. I'm not sure if she's always been this talkative during critiques and we're just seeing more of her personality now or if it was a deliberate decision to try and soften her image. I don't have a dog in this fight yet but I was proud of Kahanna Montrese for how well she turned out that lip-sync.

That video is idiotic. It's run out of steam because it's been going for so long and never changed it's format. It's a competition, there are no story arcs beyond those constructed in the edit. It has the same format as 50 other competition shows currently on air. If you're over it, stop watching it, but do it quietly because no one really cares that much, it's just a tv show x

I can definitely agree with that. However I don’t think the video is idiotic. It argues that the edits and story arcs from past seasons, (namely s4 and s5) constructed from the footage in the work room, in the challenges and on the main stage, have been better. Which is true.

And you’re right, its just a tv show. I’ll keep talking trash about trash tv, just like everyone else here.

It needs better producers who can come up with new challenges, the is the problem. The format can survive inertia, but the individual pieces require more than being chucked together and repetitive which is what it feels like atm.

Thoughts from tonight's episode:

1.) Was I the only one who thought that Milky's outfit looked awful on the runway? I just thought it was weird looking.

2.) I thought it was shady of the Queens to kind of throw Ariel under the bus when Brooklyn and plastique also had stuff to say about Milky. I mean at least Ariel owned up to it unlike the rest of them who kept their mouths quiet. Not to mention the fact they were telling all this to rupaul himself, not just amongst each other. Nina West even tried to make it seem like Ariel just brought it up out of nowhere when Ru himself actually asked who specifically they thought would be a problem in the other group.

3.) I really had a hard time with Ariel's dress on the runway. I felt it made her look really short and wide. I thought it was a beautiful look but it just didn't suit her figure or something. At the very end when all the Queens were dancing and she took off the skirt it actually look a lot better. I was really expecting Michelle to clock her silhouette. IDK. I love Ariel though.

4.) I didn't really enjoy either one of the trailers but the second one was better.

One more episode and I'm done with this season.  There's just nobody involved that I'm at all interested in.

So much to unpack, so little to rave about.

To Darreyl above, it's SILKY, not Milky. And yeah, I agree that her catsuit on the runway looked like a preschooler's finger-paint project. Atrocious. She can join the line with at least 10 others who all walked the runway in awful looks. Why is the polish so lacking this season?

So the mini-challenge-- Are we to conclude that the best way to win a mini challenge is to just show your naked bits, as Silky and Brook Lynn both triumphed by doing? Also, does anyone believe those pics we're shown are actually the ones Ru is taking with her prop camera?

As for the movie takeoffs, is Drag Race ghetto-izing itself by concentrating so heavily this episode on 2 movies all about race? Sure Black Panther is a superhero myth that everyone embraces, and Get Out features a bunch of white folks (who are all EVIL!!), but the effect is to say this season the queens are competing for best black superstar drag queen, whether they're black or not.

As for the winners, I'm fine with Yvie on top-- she was fun in her movie and had a runway look with an attitude. And kudos to Scarlet for silencing the naysayers and acing the acting challenge (I guess), but sheesh was her runway look pathetic! Another boy in a dress walking the runway with dime store crap stuck to her frock. NOT a winner in my book. I frankly would have handed the win to Plastique Tiara for nailing both the movie and the runway. On runway points alone, I thought Vanjee stood head and shoulders above all the rest-- that Libra look formed of red roses was what we love about Drag Race at its best.

And a word about the tussle in the Untuck Lounge between Yvie and R'ajah-- I don't get it when this shade-throwing of R'ajah doesn't get slammed by the rest of the girls:

On Yvie Oddly coming for her:
Ra’Jah O’Hara: “Have you ever seen someone finger paint with their feet? That’s Yvie’s mug. No, bitch, You could never. A girl that looks like you, smells like you, acts like you? No ma’am. An ugly girl could never come for a pretty girl. No. It’s a ugly bitch like you crawling out of the swamp to come for me? Mm-mm, girl. I’m over it.”

R'ajah, you're a pretty girl (and a pretty boy) but that's some nasty ugliness you've got inside.

The show is what you make of it. Calm down with telling people how they need to react to things.
