Billy Porter and Adam Lambert looked amazing on the Oscar pre-show red carpet.
I'd like to see more men break away from a traditional tuxedo. As I said, Billy and Adam looked amazing, but neither is known to be a shrinking violet when it comes to fashion that breaks any type of traditional gender barrier.
What I find to be really HOT is when men who usually dress more conservatively demonstrate that (unexpected) risk. Is it male celebrities choosing not to break away from traditional style, or designers who cater only to the female celebs at fault here?
I'd love to see some formalwear that's designed to show off the male form - legs, chest, etc. We can see it done tastefully for women - why not men?
There seemed to be a lot of bolder choices from the men last night that was very refreshing. Just off the top of my head, I loved Richard E. Grant, Stephen James, John Mulaney, Chadwick Boseman, Jason Momoa. Many deviations from the standard black jacket.
One of the most appealing designs I've seen for male formalwear was Colin Farrel's costume in Fantastic Beasts... I would have like to have seen something similar to that design tailored for Jason Mamoa (minus the shirt and tie).
I was not impressed by the Lagerfeld matching outfits he and Lisa Bonet wore.
