I'm planning on watching American son on Sunday afternoon at 3 PM, how realistic is it to make it JFK for a 6:35 Flight, I have no bags and I have TSA-precheck

In addition i assume uber or curb would be the best options, where is the best place in times square to call for that

that is REALLY tight. getting out of TSQ alone is 30 min.

play ends at 4:30. youre out of the theatre and in the uber at 5:00pm.

best case scenario: no traffic, tell them youre in a rush, and you make it to the airport by 6:00pm. youd still have to go thru security. even if you ran and hauled ass to the gate thats really pushing it. and idk about you but i wouldnt be able to enjoy the show cause i'd be stressing out about the flight after.

and any little thing pops up (traffic/accident) and youre totally effed. way to close of a call for my comfort.

Rob is exactly right -- if anything goes wrong (traffic, trouble finding a cab or uber, long line at security) you could be in trouble -- can you get on a later flight?   Even an hour later?

You CAN do it - it's not impossible - but I wouldn't risk it. Running head-long through an airport, about to miss your flight, is not a great way to spend the last day of your vacation.

I think your better bet is finding a 90-100 minute show that starts at 2pm instead of 3. That would definitely leave you with enough time.

Honestly the E train is pretty fast and reliable that and the airtrain may be quicker to JFK, depending on which terminal you're leaving from

Anyone who tells you that none of the 25 main risks in getting to JFK from Times Square in an Uber on a Sunday afternoon will materialize is irresponsible.

Were it me I would take the 4:55 (or earlier) train to Jamaica which should get you to the airport by 5:30.

Keep in mind sometimes you have to wait up to 20 minutes for the air train.

Don't mess with Uber or the subway on a Sunday. Take the LIRR as HogansHero suggested above. Hands down the best way to get to JFK. Though keep in mind you will need to take the AirTrain from Jamaica station to the actual airport. And sometimes that is slow.

Actually, with such a short time, the subway and airtrain would probably be your safest option, though it's just as prone to delays as traffic is. Driving will take about 40min to 1hr, 15min. Half of that is Manhattan alone. Either way, you'd be lucky to be at the gate by 6pm. I'd check Google maps for travel time info the second the show ends to see which would be faster.

Also, bear in mind, that the TSA may not be operating Pre-Check at all terminals. When they are understaffed, they often make you go through the regular security line,, and the pre-check simply allows you to pass through the metal detector instead of the body scanner. Even though you do not have any bags, you still have to put keys, phones, etc. through the scanner.

Another thing to note is the boarding time of your flight. Since most airlines close the doors about 10-minutes before the scheduled departure time, some minutes before that they will start removing passengers who have not boarded and assign those seats to standby passengers.

Can you do it? Possibly. But there is no definite positive answer to your question. There are too many x factors that could delay you. And that's not including any unlikely delay at the performance (late start, stopped show, etc.). Is there a later flight you can catch if you miss this one?

so reliable in fact, that today i waited 20 minutes for a delayed E train. i ended up just walking there. anyone who says you can make it on time via subway CLEARLY doesn't live in the city.

Plus the E train tends to be local on Sundays.
I think the fastest way is to go to penn station and take LIRR and then the air train.
I agree with others that it would be a gamble.

The E train is a nightmare and with signal work and less trains running forget about it. A three o'clock show and an early flight you looking for trouble. Don't be foolish recently I decided not to go into Manhattan on weekends due to the poor transportation issues.

As someone who has done a Sunday matinee into a night flight JFK more than once, I can echo what others have said. The E Train took an hour to get to the air train both times and then another 20 minutes or so. It’s risky and the whole show, if you’re anything like me, will be worried about making your flight and not enjoying the show. If you can, try and get a later flight.
