I find that people who don't like Nancy Pelosi usually have zero ability to back up their hatred with actual facts on why she wouldn't be a good speaker. If you listen to Joy Reid at 10:15 into this video - https://www.facebook.com/amjoyshow/videos/1924507914287559/ she breaks it down and explains why Pelosi is still the BEST choice to be leader.
I don't dislike Pelosi one bit but the Dems should have swapped in Tim Ryan of Ohio as Minority Leader after losing control of the House. That way he'd be perfectly positioned to lead in the event the party recovers the House after the mid-terms. And Ohio will be a key swing state two years out where he exudes considerable influence.
It's not that Pelosi has done anything wrong it is just that she has been around forever and like Clinton she stimulates voter turnout on the GOP side.
Every organization has to groom the next generation of leaders to remain viable in the long run. Now, Pelosi faces the prospect of not surviving the primary challenge or the almost certain battle for the House Leadership post at a time when the party should be extolling her legacy. It used to be called going out on top. She deserves better than a drubbing in the primaries or being unceremoniously taken down several pegs as she winds down her career in public service. Ambition is often the antidote to hubris.
Yes, a new generation needs to be groomed. That does NOT mean throwing them in as leader and hanging that be their “grooming”. It doesn’t work that way, and I’m sure you know that.
At the start of my career "baptisms by fire" were a regular occurrence. I was then employed by a defense contractor where the bulk of the leadership consisted of former military officers. The unspoken company mantra was "f*ck your feelings...you have a job to do".
This ain't Pelosi's first rodeo. She's good at reading the tea leaves. As soon as the movement to oust her really gains traction, she'll be releasing a statement along the lines of "I've been blessed beyond measure. But, in order to spend more time with my family..." The GOP hasn't even been coy about their desire to jettison Speaker Paul Ryan. It's not that either Pelosi or Ryan has been ineffective...it's just that they are now in somebody else's way. Ryan is now a lame duck and time is no longer on Pelosi's side. That's the way this town works.
Jordan Catalano said: "Yes, and her being “around forever” is exactly why she should be in charge."
After the 2016 general election, when it was screamingly clear the Democrats had lost votes that had been solidly blue for 40 years, badly misread the sentiment of the public and needed to really take a hard look at how to regain the trust and support of elements of their base, time and time again Pelosi said nah, we don't need to look at anything, don't need to revisit how we reach out to our base, don't need to do a damn thing differently the next time. Just keep on doing what we are doing. She has made herself the poster child for the view that Democrats have taken the support of their core groups for granted. She is dangerously out of touch and too arrogant to admit mistakes were made and changes need to take place. THAT'S why she needs to go, I could care less about her age or being a lighting rod for attacks from the right. I'm not saying she needs to drop out of the house and she certainly will have no problem getting re-elected. Her fundraising skills are still very valuable. But she's had her crack at speaker. We desperately need a new, more aware, more in touch voice at the head of the Democratic Congressional delegation.
We have a gerrymandered district down here that the Dem will win. It's pretty easy to get to all the voters just about. A guy named Tim Canova ran against Schultz down here 2 years ago. He was getting donations from a lot of angry Leftists from everywhere. He lost and we still have Debbie, who should be the poster child for the failure of the Democratic Party. I split my ticket and finally voted against her. My peers down here voted her back in. I recommended to Canova months ago buy up billboards of our two major interstates the week leading up to the election, put her picture up there and remind us who has to go.
I ain't a lefttist but did send Tim Canova's campaign a donation to sweep DWS out to sea. For some reason though he rolled over and played dead. At that point I concluded that the fix was in. I had the unfortunate experience of meeting both DWS and Ms Brazile years ago and I'll leave it at that.
Sucker, I only gave $27 to Bernie, a couple of times. I was so angry that with all that national exposure this clown could lose. It almost seems like a set up, that this guy couldn't be that incompetent.
If the dems want to take back control then Pelosi needs to be out and they know that. The democratic party has slowly been distancing themselves from her. Pelosi is a smart woman and I think she will go willingly.
