No one has figured out the algorithm because there isn't one other than if you notice they pick a film actor & actress, someone from the classical music world, a film or stage director, a film score composer, a virtuoso musician, a stage actor or actress, & generally an all-around or a pop icon. I have watched the show since 1978 & have enjoyed most of them except there have been many misses where many icons have passed away. We have just a handful of actors left that are in their 80s plus. Some are near the age 70 mark which generally has been the time's in zone. Also notice that KHC has often skipped over most TV actors/actresses (e.g. Mary Tyler Moore should have been a shoe-in). Definitely appears Ms. Fonda is being snubbed-no other way to explain it. Anyway in my spare time one thing I do is make lists of a good fitting panel for each upcoming Honors show. We still have some music stars out there & a few actors & actresses who are long overdue. Here goes: music: Roberta Flack, Dionne Warwick, Yanni, Keith Jarrett, Enya, David Arkenstone, George Winston, James Galway, John Rutter, Morton Lauridsen, Karl Jenkins, Harry Cristophere, Renee Fleming, Andrea Bocelli, Sarah Brightman, Fleetwood Mac, the 5th Dimension, Pat Benatar, Carly Simon, Jonie Mitchell, Crosby Stills & Nash, Judy Collins. Of stage & screen plus singing we have Liza Minnelli, Glenn Close, Betty Buckley, Ben Vereen, Len Cariou, Richard Chamberlain, Dick Van Dyke. Film score composers include Howard Shore & Hans Zimmer. Maurice Jarre passed away & unfortunately so did James Horner. Film directors-there's Ron Howard. Missing actresses include Sally Field, Jessica Lange, Haley Mills, Piper Laurie. Actors: Daniel Day-Lewis. All arounds of stage & screen & singing include Liza Minnelli, Cher, Glenn Close. Don't forget Whoopi Goldberg.
Francis Coppola hasn't got the Kennedy Center Honors thing. He also hasn't gotten the AFI Life Achievement Award.
