The Band's Visit, unquestionably. Transporting, haunting, emotional. Gorgeous, sweeping score. It profoundly captures the power of human connection. One of my favorite musicals of all time.

Otherwise, this has been a really, really weak season for new musicals. SpongeBob was really the only other one I can say wasn't horrible.

Bands Visit. Hands down. Subtle, sophisticated, human.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Can’t agree with you more. Of all the musicals I’ve ever seen live, 15 now, this is probably my second favorite!

On Broadway, The Band's Visit. Off-Broadway, I really liked Desperate Measures.

Once On This Island for sure. It's been arguably my favorite show since I saw the original when I was in middle school, and I feel about this revival the way that Dollypop clearly feels about Hello Dolly. :) What a glorious production.

(For new musicals, I'm definitely Team Band's Visit!)

The Band's Visit. I loved its quiet beauty. It also has what might be my favorite ending of any musical ever. I also really adored Once on this Island. The staging and the riot of color and the performances really drew me in.

Not as good as sitting home and watching the movie, unfortunately.

1. Bands Visit - Just beautiful!

2. Spongebob - Yes it really is good with some fantastic performances

3. Mean Girls - Not as good as the film and the music isn't particularly memorable, but it's still a lot of fun.

4. Once on this Island - Very enjoyable and the staging is fantastic.

the bands visit was masterful, subtle and thoroughly
engaging.
on the revival side the my fair lady revival lives up to the very high expectations i had-both leads deliver tony nom worthy acting performances and norbert leo butz steals every scene he is in and also deserves a tony.

the rest of this season was thoroughly dissapointing
and what people see in spongebob unless you are a spongebob fanatic i will never understand.

admittedly weve been spoiled with a few fantastic years with deh, hamilton, come from away, waitressq
heres hoping for a more fruitful 2018-19 musicals season!!

I found it really enjoyable. I'm not sure why it gets the amount of hate it's been getting - it's a fun show! Yes, some of the lyrics are... questionably lazy... but overall I thought it was a very entertaining night of theater. I was smiling the whole time. If someone's coming to NYC and can only see one show, I'm not sure it's the ONE I'd recommend, but it's certainly worth seeing if you live here or have vacation options!

for me it's My Fair Lady. I did love The Band's Visit too, and saw it twice, but MFL is the one that I'll see on every trip until it closes (saw it in March and will see it on both trips this summer).

I love when a revival of a classic musical is done so well (as with Hello Dolly last year). the score is one of my favorites and this orchestra sounds wonderful. And I love the Lauren Amborse / Harry Hadden-Paton combination. It's the first time I've ever felt a soft spot for Higgins and was rooting for him to realize what he was doing wrong. I've never really felt like that before - I've always been firmly on team Eliza. Loved him.

Out of the selection given this year - I'd say it was definitely the janky bootleg of Evita's Original Broadway production I saw on YouTube. Sorry but I didn't care for The Band's Visit, Frozen, Mean Girls all that much, and am not seeing MFL/Carousel until August.

Caption: Every so often there was a rare moment of perfect balance when I soared above him.

Well put. I interpreted this thread to be just about new musicals, but if it’s including musical revivals of the season as well, then My Fair Lady ties with TBV for me. A pitch-perfect production.

I'll be visiting next month and this one is definitely on our list to see.  Any tips on where to sit for the lower priced tickets?  Would Orchestra along the far right or left be better than Rear Mezz?

Closer to the stage is better for this one. I'd go for anywhere in the orchestra over the rear mezz.

I should have mentioned I am bringing my niece to see Mean Girls. She's 20 years old. Here are some of the shows she loved (in no particular order):

- Kinky Boots
- Dear Evan Hansen
- Hamilton
- Waitress
- Lobby Hero
- Wicked
- Rent
- Newsies

ONCE ON THIS ISLAND by a wide mile, electric and heartstoppingly moving.

MY FAIR LADY is first runner-up, a cooler show delivered with panache and skill if not swooning emotion.

And then, I'm sorry to say, THE BAND'S VISIT takes a distant third place. The music could be lovely, but the show simply traveled too small a journey for me. An admirable Act I waiting for its Act II.

I sat in the Rear Mezz C 101 and it was a perfect view of the entire stage. If you want to make out every little expression made by the actors, mezz would be good. But for 27$, I was more than grateful for my seat.
