In 2013, I did Godspell and did a Bill Cosby gag. When we revived that production in 2016, there was instead a joke about how you can't do a Bill Cosby gag anymore.

“O blindness of the great!
They go their way like gods,
Great over bent backs,
Sure of hired fists,
Trusting in the power
Which has lasted so long.
But long is not forever.
O change from age to age!
Thou hope of the people!”

The crimes for which he was convicted are reprehensible and indefensible.  What a spectacular fall from grace for a man who was held in such high regard for as long as I can remember.  I can only hope the convictions bring some amount of comfort to his victims, and that they are able to define their lives by their own accomplishments and not by what he took away from them.

^This.

I can't get over the # of pity parties I've been invited to since the news of the verdict broke.  My response has been a consistent #VictimsMatter.

My mother used to say the worst thing you can do with your talents is piss them away; after seeing Cosby's fall from grace, I think what's worse is to piss on your talents and taint them forever with the other things you do. Cosby will never be "the comedian" or "the storyteller" again, even in his obituary. And he did that to himself.

His legacy was never going to come back, even before this ruling. But the verdict just caps it all. His decades-long career is totally undone. The fact his image was so paternal and idealized only makes this all the darker- and his conservative moralizing about the black community in his later years is even worse.

May he never see the outside of a jail cell again, and proceed to rot his miserable existence away in the deepest depths of hell - along with all the others like him.

From your mouth to G*D's ears.

But as a bitter and cynical woman, I expect that after the legal appeal ( which WILL fail) they will beg for mercy, citing his advanced age, health issues,( tho he certainly waved his mobility aid around w/out limiting his jog o shame out of the court) family traumas  et all just like all those old Nazi 's who hid and were caught . Even then- he will almost certainly serve his time in a  "Club Fed" environment  .Still he will have his freedoms restricted and his life style will be so diminished as to make him want death.

That will suffice.

I know a few Producers of Carsey/Werner who are really not too happy about this! NOT that they defended him by any means, but rather a major money source has gone dry.

I am most certainly not willing or able to put blinders on regarding Cosby's heinous behavior that effected so many women.

Similarly though, I am equally unable to negate or discredit the good that he DID do.

I don't know how to process that. I can't think of anyone in my lifetime who's behavior has been so polarized between such beneficial acts and such evil (not even O.J.). I'm intensely interested in how Cosby existed in this way, including who might have been the people (if any) who kept his secrets and covered for him. How did he reconcile his behaviors within himself? Is he such an egoist that he felt he could absolve himself of his heinous behaviors because of his beneficial accomplishments? ... or did he seek to do good as a means of penance?

He is a real-life Jekyll and Hyde and even though my hope will probably anger many people, my feeling is that I'd like to see an unbiased, in-depth documentary about the man.
