I attended the first preview of strictly ballroom tonight at the Piccadilly in London. However, at approximately 50 minutes into the show they stopped the show and the safety curtain came down. Af first they said that they would go to an early interval to fix the issue and then pick up where they stopped. But after about 20 minutes, they announced that the show could not continue. As I left I saw a fire truck in front of the theatre. I believe they said there was an electrical fire backstage. It is the risk you run attending a first preview.

I wanted to see this at WYP but now they’ve brought in Will Young I am reluctant. Any reports?

is this meant to be an open ended run? I'll be in London in September and would love to see this

What do you mean "this is a risk you take  attending a first preview"?  A backstage electrical fire could happen on any night.

Did anyone else see this show? My friend got me into Strictly Ballroom around the time this premiered, but being the US, I haven't heard much about it. As there is no buzz for a transfer, I'm assuming this project is dead in the water. Also what was the song list, I seriously cannot find that anywhere. Is it a jukebox musical or does it have some original songs? They mentioned they used songs from the film, but I can't find any official list.

Hi It was part jukebox/part original in it's first review cycle. however, when the show went to the West End they brought in a Pop idol winner to play a narrator style role who sang most of the songs leaving the dancers to dance.

It didn't see it but it seems by all accounts it was under developed.

I can't see transfers, perhaps cruise ships and amateur licensing.

Hope that helps, it had such potential.

Liked the musical but the film was much better. The costumes were so garish that I had issues with those neon dresses spinning about.
This show has no chance of crossing the pond. They gave it a good try though.
