Please forgive me, I could have sworn there was already a thread for this but my searches came up with nothing. So if there is one just direct to that.

The tour begins in Chicago in a week! I really want to see the show, but I'm hoping prices go down or it gets put on goldstar at some point.

Anyone attending the first performances? Or while it's in Chicago? Hoping the sets live up to the Broadway production.

The first block was selling pretty well when I looked, but I don't know what the second looks like in terms of sales. I'm not seeing it until the 27th or so. I haven't seen the Broadway production yet, so it will be my first time to see Aladdin.

The Broadway sets are unimpressive and look like touring sets. I'd expect the touring sets to match Broadway. The colorful costumes for the show seem to be where much of the design budget was spent.

I am excited to see this production!

Cadillac Palace is such a good spot for this show.

I understand why one would think that, but the Cave of Wonders set alone probably surpasses the wardrobe budget.

As as far as the North American tour goes, expect it to look like the Australian tour -- basically the same as Broadway but without the use of traps.

Begins tomorrow night! Pics of the invited dress on Instagram have me excited! I found out it's on goldstar, so I'm hoping to nab a ticket from there.

Just like like the Broadway set but without the traps?  Yikes.  I found this show to be a terrible bore to sit through. The only part that was fun to watch was "Friend like Me" (I think that's what the Genie's big song is called? IDK) when the Genie spins up quickly out of the traps over and over again.  If the tour has the Genie simply running on from the sides over and over........ugh that would ruin the one cool thing about this show.

Im not sure where you got the "running on from the sides" idea, but that isn't what happens.

As a side note, if watching things rotate as they go up and down fascinates you so much, I recommend buying a corkscrew.

I apologize.  I should have been more clear.  When a Broadway show has pieces that enter from a trap, the tour has a similar piece enter from the sides instead. For example, the candelabras in Phantom.  That's where I got the idea from. Once again, my apologies for not saying where I got the idea from. I didn't mean to confuse you.

It was so sweet of you to suggest buying a corkscrew! Watching it go up and down while rotating, instead of seeing the tour of Aladdin, will definitely bring me some cheap, exciting entertainment!  It was such a thoughtful suggestion to make.  I'm super glad you didn't say anything snarky and obnoxious like simply telling the board how the genie enters without traps.  That would would have been sooooo rude.

CMG;  Be careful with Goldstar.  A lot of times it is the same full price without being able to choose your seat.  I just saw this show last month in NYC and did not care for it.  But I recognize that I am not its demographic and pretty much got what I expected.  Hope you have fun.

It was quite lovely, I thought. You absolutely could not tell it was a first preview. Perhaps some timing needs to be worked out but I was quite taken with the whole thing.

How was the Carpet on tour? How did they handle the genies spinning trap door appearances?

The Genie first enters out of a set piece in the cave of wonders. One of the big stacks of treasure. There's a joke about it being an elevator. His second spinning entrance, he just sort of slides out on stage. The exit from that scene was really the only troublesome bit... he just sort of walks off stage in a puff of smoke instead of slowly descending as he does on Broadway. Another noteable change is Jafar's genie exit... which is done on a large, sort of ugly, canopy platform.

The carpet appeared identical to the one on Broadway.

We went May 5. It was spectacular.  The cast was great. The stage magic was jawdropping.  Such a fun fun fun time in the theatre.  How many costume changes must that poor cast go through?  And how many dressers do they have?

(Although we laughed a bit at how the staging hides some of the lesser quality dancers)

Is this show basically a full blown version of the 45-minute production that ran at Disney's California Adventure for years?
