Beetlejuice. Ended up seeing it twice about a week apart (once intentionally, once because a friend offered me a free ticket) and found it just as delightful the second as the first. I agree the music is far from perfect and the book loses shape in Act Two, but honestly? It's just silly fun IMO and sometimes that's enough, y'know?

A few of mine - American Psycho, Hands on a Hardbody, Head Over Heels - have already been mentioned, but I don't think anyone's cited Lysistrata Jones.

Beetlejuice for sure. Had a great time and it was exactly the escape I needed on a Friday after a tough work week.

Going back a bit, Tuck Everlasting. I loved so many things about it, and I think it would’ve been better received in a less crowded season.

I saw The Addams Family at my local high school last March, and enjoyed it! I was shocked to find out that people actually didn’t like the musical when I looked up info about it later on.

On Broadway, there have been two shows me and my family enjoyed: Frozen and Be More Chill (which only me and my father saw, and he loved the characters and the songs, and thought it was sad at times).

I actually really enjoyed It Shoulda Been You, and was surprised to hear that others didn’t like it. I thought the plot twist was surprising and fun.

I loved the Carousel revival last year

RECENTLY: Adored Amelie - thought it was delightful, and if it opens in 2018 or 2019 it gets a Best Tony nom.  It ran into a really strong year with CFA and DEH.

Also thought Disaster! was just silly fun.

I am Smile's biggest fan, though!

I loved the Carousel revival as well. I think it was definitely the weakest revival of the season, but that's because OOTI and MFL were phenomenal. The only thing I was underwhelmed by was Jessie Mueller's performance, but Joshua Henry and Lindsay Mendez saved it.

Everyone seemed to bash the Donna Summer musical last season, and while it wasn’t the best, it was probably the most fun I’ve had in the theatre. I also thoroughly enjoyed last year’s Carousel revival. Set wasn’t amazing but the cast was top-notch. I also really had a great time at King Kong. Catchy songs and Kong was absolutely incredible. I’d also love to add to the Addams Family love!! I saw it twice, once with the original cast and then again with Roger Reese. A super fun show that definitely didn’t deserve the hate.

I really liked Lestat. The show was a mess but the songs and actors were great. I'm still sad that they never released the cast recording. They recorded and were doing pre-sales at the theater but ended up pulling the plug.

This season? BEETLEJUICE was an absolute delight for me. The humor was shockingly modern, which I was not expecting at all — at times it dove right into the fantastic absurdist qualities of Millennial/Gen-Z humor, which I haven’t seen another show capture so far.

Overall? Not sure anyone “hated” it — but I seem to love CURTAINS a heck of a lot more than most people I know. I still think it should’ve beat SPRING AWAKENING (another show I adore, but I don’t think that’s a controversial opinion!) for Best Book.

I just saw a Matinee performance of King Kong today, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. I mainly went just to see the Kong puppet in person, but I was pleasantly surprised. Besides maybe one song, I thought the songs ranged from Ok to pretty good. They presented two awards at the end of our performance, and one of them was the Chita Rivera Award for best Ensemble, and I can definitely see why they won. The whole cast was pretty good. We had Kayla Davion playing Ann Darrow, and she was fantastic. I did go into this show with low expectations, especially after all the bad reviews I read, but I personally loved it. Plus, for $83 a ticket, we got some pretty good seats in the orch section. Thank god for TKTS.

I did love Bombay Dreams.  I would've happily seen it again.

I loved Amélie. I thought it was a super cute little show. I still put the cast recording on sometimes if I’m feeling down.

I am still American Psycho's champion, and I think it was an incredible piece of theatre. It was definitely marketed as a black comedy which is hardly what it was. It was more of an existential nightmare than anything else. Of course it opened at the very end of the season in which Hamilton dominated every single category, so it never stood a chance. I'm STILL upset they didn't record an OBCR, as the OLCR is far inferior in both performances and the pre-revision lyrics.

I'm glad someone mentioned Lestat! I think it was much more interesting a show in its SanFran tryout, but the budget decreased before it made it to Broadway (and Hugh Panaro was sick for the majority of its BW run). I asked Panaro about the cast recording and he basically said "talk to Warner Bros. because I'd like to see it too!" I have a feeling they may release it to coincide with the Vampire Chronicles Hulu series in the works, but time will tell.

Unlike most people, I am a huge fan of the LONDON production of Love Never Dies (evidenced by my icon). It had a massive amount of problems that none of the revisions solved (in fact most made it worse), but I have never jived with Meg's diminished role and the general Tim Burton aesthetic of the Australian production. However, I did see the US tour and I think the performances and the minor changes they made between that tour and AU made it seriously worth seeing.

Other shows that I love that others seem to dislike/hate:

Legally Blonde (I know the entire score and it's fun as hell. Idk if people hate it but I imagine it's disliked for being the general start of movie adaptations that people are now sick of)

Jekyll & Hyde (I hate the revised, pop version and I hope that's not the version they are using for the film)

I saw Little Miss Sunshine twice when it was off-Broadway. Everyone I've talked to who knows the show isn't a fan, but I thought that it was a fun little gem of a show that did a lot with some pretty thin source material.

I, too, enjoyed Amelie a great deal.  I saw it in LA before its Broadway run and thought it was charming.  It wasn't real flashy though, so I could see how it might get swallowed up on Broadway.

American Psycho, for sure.   I loved it.   Again though, it was one of those musicals that was a matter of personal taste.  I seem to remember almost everyone on the boards here who saw it claiming a real positive response to it.  In fact, most people on the boards seemed to like it.  Apparently it wasn't to the critic's liking though, so it didn't receive any shoring up on that front.

Bullets Over Broadway....I really liked it.  I didn't quite get the hate for the show either.  Was it the best I've seen? No.  But it was far from the worst.   And Marin was just wonderful!
