Thoughts on tonight's episode: when Scarlett was talking about how she made her entire dress. I was like "yeah, it looks like it and I don't mean that as a compliment" it looks really poorly executed and the skirt was riding up in places so you can see the hoop underneath. Also this whole vanjie/ Brooklyn thing seems to be overplayed. Like the reactions are too over-the-top for me. If anything they're probably just hooking up. I don't see enough on the show to have me thinking this is some kind of actual relationship. Of course I'm not there to see everything either..
I really enjoyed this weeks episode. It was one of the better musical themed challenges they’ve done, however I 100% don’t understand how Silky was the winner.
I can't make up my mind if it's funny or sad that way too many of the queens had no idea how to pronounce the word "colonel."

Yeah, the editors seemed to be having way too much fun with how poorly a lot of these girls have been taught to do basic reading.
This episode left me feeling really icky about a show that wears its politics so heavily on its sleeve. A RACHEL MADDOW mini challenge and a TRUMP RUSICAL and a beatdown to Silky for admitting to being a Republican... I don't know, guys. Spoken as someone who is myself a fan of all things MSNBC and is a progressive Democrat through and through, I just felt so brow-beaten by the whole episode. And pity poor Ginger Minj for being saddled with the role of Trump in all this mayhem. I just wanted to fast-forward through the whole musical show and go straight to the runway (which this week was better than usual).
So far only 4 or 5 girls keep standing out in the acting challenges-- Nina West, Silky, Brook Lynn, Yvie Oddly and God-help-us Scarlett Envy (a queen I detest). And of those, only Brook Lynn and Yvie consistently nail the runway each week. Where are all the other girls, and when are they going to step their pussies up already? I totally get why Silky won this week (her runway was by far the most polished we've seen her) but this is going to be a LONG season if the same 4-5 queens are gonna dominate every episode going forward.
Oh, and who thought Joel McHale's creepy straight-white-guy noises during the judging were actually funny? I thought he'd be an awesome judge, but damn there was something really horrifying about his frat-bro hooting all the way through it. Tiffany Pollard? She was a dream of a judge!
I remember thinking that Vanjie, as Rosie O'Donnell, wasn't getting any help from the script or the voice she was having to lip-synch to, neither of which were at all Rosie-like. Are they just not allowed internet access for even a quick peek at some youtube videos when they're in doubt?
I remember seeing poor old Alyssa Edwards trying to do Joan Crawford, and it was clear that, beyond a wig and some thick eyebrows, that Alyssa had absolutely no idea what a Joan Crawford even was.

That Trump musical was my least favorite lip sync challenge of all time. What an unfunny, unnecessary waste of time. Who writes these thing?! They’re AWFUL. And the editors had way too much fun editing the mini challenge. Some of those queens clearly lack reading comprehension skills and it also felt like they were going out of their way to highlight Mercedes’s accent, which is super offensive.
Loved the runway. I would’ve given the win to Brooke Lynn, personally. I love Silky, but I thought her runway was nice but safe.

he was genuinely excited. I he just turned it up 20 notches when he saw how Michelle was getting annoyed. and even then she kept smirking at him. it was fine.
^ I guess it just struck me how rare it was to be faced with McHale's creepy straight-white-guy vibe on the judging panel-- something we haven't seem much of since Santino's departure. Hooting at the queens with their fake boobs and their various insecurities just made for a very unsafe vibe in this room that had always felt like a private club for the genderqueer kids and their closest fans. Suddenly I'm asking who let the crass frat-guy in?

It seemed to me he was parodying the behaviour, he wasn't being serious.
I think the what made this week the most uncomfortable is that it seemed that about half of the girls didn't get the jokes. No granted there weren't that many there to begin with, but that was a rough challenge saved by a a great runway.
Happy that Vangie wasn't sent home this week, and hopefully Rahja is next.
ugh when is snatch game!!! this season is dragging.
I feel like Brooke is probably the front runner for this season, but she won't get crowned because it would be another blonde and white winner and we all saw how that went for trinity on AS4. So if she gets screwed out of the crown for a political reason like that, I would love to see it go to Yvie. (ANYONE but Silky). Even tho I feel they would consider giving it to silky cause she black and a big girl.
If memory serves, you gotta wait till they're down to 8 or 9 girls to get your Snatch Game. I don't think their Snatch Game seating can hold more than that.
I thought Brook Lynn's first runway look was so basic. Like, it looked like one of those halloween costumes that your mother makes you because she dose not want to buy you a costume so she just takes an old bedsheet and rips it, ties it around you and you're a mummy. maybe if she had made her skin look more old and decayed like a mummy's or something underneath the bandages, but it just looked soo basic and like it took twenty minutes to make. i did not get all the raves for it. Being On Point all down the runway was cool tho but it looked soo simple to me.
Vaneji is soo predictable with the same one piece swimsuit. WTF, Michelle clocked her on it last runaway, but all three of her looks had that same basic silhouette with embellishment. Predictable
Side Note: WHY can people not pronounce Maleficent's name correctly on this show, they mess it up every time. It's malef as in Left not Malef as in Lift. GET IT RIGHT.
The first category was supposed to be sexy/slutty/etc not spooky. I think Brooke's mummy presentation fit the category and frankly was more flattering than 90% of the costumes in the first set. I do agree about Vanjie. All of her looks were underwhelming.
Odd show this week-- a mini-challenge that's basically about a costume, and then a Monster ball that's just a parade of 3 more costumes each. I thought the winning queen was deserved, sure. But wasn't the last costume supposed to be a sewing challenge, and on that basis alone shouldn't Silky have been in the bottom by a mile? I know she's a bigger big girl than we're used to, but Lordy, she's lived in her body for decades and should know by now what flatters her and what doesn't. Stuffing yourself into an orange vinyl condom with fun fur stuck on the shoulders with all the foundation garments sticking out sure was frightening, but maybe not in the way she intended. She is so due for a lip-sync for her life.
What is it with Ru’s obvious h*rdon for big queens who are also just ridiculously annoying? First two years suffering through Eureka and now This Silky. There’s SO many big girls out there who are amazingly talented and don’t make you want to turn the channel.

It was already sad that some of these queens didn't know too much about Mariah Carey. But to have zero knowledge about Matthew Shepard? I have no words.
Random thoughts on the Draglympics-- keep bringing in those hot hot hotties to choreograph and judge, and I'll keep watching! Wow!
Thirstiness aside, it was a pretty solid episode all around. Everyone looked spot on for the mini-challenge (except for maybe Silky and her stupid flag) and everyone pretty much came through on the Draglympics performance. I was kinda confused about the lypsinc-ing going on there (was it supposed to be another Rusical?) but who cares-- the girls kept me entertained. Also, I'm super-pleased they went deeper with up-close-and-personal time for Yvie and Silky. Getting Scarlet's backstory was a tipoff early on that she was gonna be in trouble.
The gold-plated runway once again separated the usual stars from the usual wanna-bes. Tops were easily Brook Lynn and Plastique (I thought Akeria's look was just another big tasteless pageant gown but whatevs). Bottoms for me were Silky (I do NOT get the love here), Vanjie (worst look last night--what is with her addiction to gold sparkle dust on her chest??) and frankly Nina. Good for Michelle Visage for finally critiquing Nina's lack of hip padding ruining look after look. Oh, and I almost forgot that boy-in-a-dress, Miss Scarlett. It would have been a pile-on if Michelle had read HER for never padding top or bottom in any of her looks this whole season, but a critique now would have been too little too late.
And yeah, for me the right one went home. I still count at least 2 or 3 more queens who could easily sashay away before we get to the meat of the competition. Is it time for Snatch Game yet???
I would’ve sent Ra’jah home last night without even a second thought. For a “trained dancer,” she looks like a damn deer in the headlights every time she has to perform. And I agreed with Scarlett’s sentiment that even though she wasn’t the best this week, she worked her ass off and Ra’jah has been in the bottom a lot. I personally would take “occasionally solid” over “consistently mediocre” any day of the week.
Brooke Lynn slayed as usual; but I thought Akeria led a great team, delivered a solid performance, and turned out a gorgeous (if traditionally pageant-y) runway. Akeria deserved the win this week.
But yeah. Let’s clear out a few more of these queens and get to the meat of the season. I’m tired of pretending some of these girls even stand a chance at that crown.
