boy talk about the anti disney bias among the tonys nominators

Aladdins costumes are extraordinary, as are the scenic designs and lighting

they were not nominated in any of these categories and gentlemans guide won for costumes(what a joke)

Gentlemans Guide had brilliant costumes! Especially with those insane costume changes.

i agree call me jorge the costumes in GGTLM were very good,

The aladdin costumers are STUNNING, they used over 2000 unique fabrics in the prodcution,,,,and Aladin wasnt even nominated, which is my main point regarding the anti disney bias among tony nominators....

We saw the Seattle performance a few days ago. Really enjoyed it, much more than we anticipated. And the carpet? That was extremely cool. Jaw dropping actually. Had to google how they did that as soon as we got home. Big thumbs up from us!

Looks like Courtney will be reuniting with Adam on the tour AND MJS will be playing the genie in LA. I feel bad for Anthony, but I’m glad to see Isabella won’t be left out! And YAY to Arielle joining The Broadway production. https://www.broadwayworld.com/article/A-Whole-New-World-Arielle-Jacobs-to-Succeed-Courtney-Reed-as-Jasmine-Broadways-ALADDIN-20171207

Has anyone seen the tour since Adam Jacob departed the show back at the end of March? I was bummed to read that he left, and wanted to see how the new ‘Aladdin’ was in comparison.

I saw it in Denver last month and loved it! I didn't know the Aladdin changed right before so I can't really compare actors, but the guy who was in last month was great! That said, the genie steals the show anyway so I say go for it! It was a blast!

Adam Jacob is a little long in the tooth to still be playing Aladdin.

It's Jacobs, and he's not playing it anymore, at least according to the cast list on the website.

Thank you, Great Dame. :)

And my apologies for misspelling/typo Adam’s last name. I knew it was Jacobs, but didn’t proofread before hitting ‘post’.

I also knew Clinton Greenspan took over as Aladdin.

I have a ticket (balcony box seat) to see “Aladdin” at the end of June in Philadelphia but may have to sell it since the date doesn’t really work for me anymore, and tickets for the Pittsburgh run went on sale this past Friday.

Any updates on the show? I’m finally seeing the National Tour next weekend up in Pittsburgh. Started listening to the OBCR again. Got so many songs in my head from the other shows I’ve seen in the past several months it’s mind boggling. :)

I'm heartbroken that there is not one single stop in FL, the closest stop is GA, which is over 10 hours away. we have some HUGE theaters here in FL with plenty of tours coming through all the time. Anyone know why?

Waiting for the doors to open at the Benedum Center for the Performing Arts in Pittsburgh. First time I can ever remember them doing bag checks. They have six stations set up at the entrance doors into the main lobby with over a dozen security people. I asked at the Box Office and was told this is indeed the first time, and set up specifically for the Aladdin tour, but would also be doing it at more shows this upcoming season.

I had the pleasure of seeing the tour a few times when it was in Philly back in June/July and loved it. I had seen the show on Broadway with the original Broadway company and the tour company was every bit as good. I saw both Clinton Greenspan and Pierre Marais as Aladdin and both of them were wonderful and captured Aladdin's spirit and charms well with great voices and good looks to match. I loved Isabelle McCalla a lot as Jasmine and felt she brought more sass to the role than I remember Courtney Reed having and I can't wait to see her in The Prom. Just like James Monroe Iglehart on Broadway, Michael James Scott steals the show is a laugh riot and brings a lot of sass and showmanship to the role of Genie and I just lived for him.

The entire company is wonderful and I know Isabelle has since left the show and Trevor and Michael switched places for a bit so I can't comment on that, but the show and company are both as good as on Broadway.

This is definitely one of those sit back and just enjoy it shows. From the beginning with “Arabian Nights”, when the Genie (played by Trevor Dion Nicholas, a Morgantown, WV native) said “...and you know what Agrabah is famous for...” then whipped from his pocket a yellow Pittsburgh Steelers Terrible Towel and whirled it in the air, the crowd going nuts, you just knew it was going to be a crazy show.

As reported by Broadway World and Broadway.com, Trevor Dion Nicholas, “who's played the Genie in the London production of Disney's Aladdin since the musical opened in 2016, joined the show’s North American tour for a limited engagement this summer, including a three-week engagement in his hometown of Pittsburgh, before returning to the West End.” And let me tell you, he was simply amazing!

The show’s costumes are vibrant, colorful and gorgeously done, the dance sequences were out of this world amazing, the flying carpet scene dazzling, and the energy and sweat the cast displayed during this performance, were all captivating and spectacular.

Speaking of sweat, Clinton Greenspan (who seemed to be constantly bathed in sweat) was sweet and enduring as Aladdin, and Lissa deGuzman was absolutely beautiful to watch.

The ensemble cast all did a superb job, and knocked it out of the park in “Friend Like Me” and “Prince Ali”, the latter ending in an explosion of streamers from the stage way out into the orchestra section of the theater.

Most spectacular and visually stunning was the “Cave of Wonders”, an absolute show-stopper. And with the aforementioned “Friend Like Me” singing and dance marathon, it received a thunderous roar of applause and cheers at its conclusion.

There were also LOTS of kids, which is to be expected. Those around me seemed almost bored halfway through Act I and at intermission some were wanting to go home already. The parents of the two girls to the left of me had a hard time keeping them seated, one of them laying in her daddy’s lap with the top of her head damn near in mine.

The only fault in the show was in Act II, when after “High Adventure” the main curtain suddenly came down and the house lights came up about 50% with the announcement “Ladies and Gentleman, can I have your attention please. Due to a technical issue there will be a short hold on the show”. In all the shows I’ve seen at the Benedum, this had never happened. Thankfully, it only lasted just over 15 minutes, at which time they announced the show would resume and it picked up at the dungeon scene with Prince Ali, Babkak, Omar, and Kassim chained to the wall.

All in all it was a great show. If it’s coming to your town and you haven’t seen it yet, buy a ticket and enjoy this simple yet extraordinarily fun time.

Were they just bag checking, or metal detecting?  I've never seen this happen for a touring production at the Benedum, either.

Disney has very strict security measures and they had a similar set up during the run in Philly. I personally think similar bag checks should continue to be done but it's definitely a Disney policy in place.

I had a very annoying experience with a man checking my bag at the Benedum back in February when I went to see Wicked. I had a standard size tote bag and each time I'd walk in with a group of friends all of whom had larger bags than mine I'd be told by the gentleman I had to take my bag and put it somewhere. I definitely felt like this gentleman doing the bag checks (I saw him several times that weekend) seemed to have it in for me for some odd reason.

Is Courtney Reed still with the touring production? When I saw the show two years ago she was the weakest link... her voice was not holding up at all. I understand actors are humans also but if you have a paying audience, do not put on an actress who is struggling consistently throughout the show to hit her notes.

I didn’t see any wand-style metal detectors, but I was also first person in the far right door, and since all I had was my ticket and no bag(s) I was waived through to the ticket scanners. They did have waste containers for disposing of (I’m assuming here) outside drinks and/or food. There were two security people per station, and six stations set up at the entrance doors into the main lobby with what looked like two supervisors roaming around. These were not normal Benedum staff, and were dressed in black and yellow jackets and black pants.

I also didn’t see this security check before with “Wicked” (Jan. 27), nor with “Waitress” (Mar. 11) or “Rent” (Apr. 1).

Not sure, but Courtney Reed hasn’t been with the touring company in a while unless she joined for a limited engagement. Before the current Jasmine, Lissa deGuzman, it was Isabelle McCalla.
