Great news!! Ride The Cyclone and Hadestown in one season would be a great, in a sea of jukebox fluff.

Has anyone seen this recently and can give a report?

I saw it a few days after it opened! I can do a writeup later this week when I get some more time but if anyone has any specific questions I can probably answer them real quickly!

A friend saw it in Seattle last week and enjoyed it very much. She said that an opening number has been added. A couple of the cast members are the same as what we saw here in NYC in 2016. I saw Taylor Louderman as Ocean, but she left the production quite soon after, citing "creative differences." Tiffany Tatreau replaced her on a moment's notice, and she's playing the role in Seattle.

I would love to see this and Hadestown in the same season! I wonder if Ride the Cyclone will use the existing cast or bring in New York actors, or a "name."

Saw this here in Seattle tonight and mostly enjoyed it. The actress playing Jane Doe was, unexpectedly, the stand-out, maybe because her character is so genuinely mysterious (the power of a good wig?), but Constance was also very funny and there weren't any particular weak spots, though the Ukranian guy felt kind of hammy. My biggest issue was that it was overamplified - the ACT Falls Theater is so tiny, is it necessary to blow it up? The instruments were amplified, so the voices had to be amplified, which meant in more than one number it became a kind of sonic mush. I don't think I understood a single lyric in the opening song.

I also agree with a lot of previously mentioned criticisms, it definitely feels like it was written around a set of vaudeville songs and some of the actual construction was clumsy. Many jokes landed a firm punchline, but then the actors broke through the laughter with a weaker, second punchline. Little things like the inconsistency of the "catchphrases" made it feel kind of wobbly - we get a couple actual catchphrases, and then a jokey, long non-catchphrase catchphrase, which is funny, but then we get another long one, and now we've lost the gag. Several of the numbers were really nice, but then you get the rap song and the cat queen song back to back (I think), which feels like an overload.

How are we meant to feel throughout the show? In the first half it was exquisitely dark - you want to like these kids, and then you start to get the sense that they are, in fact, broken, but then it hesitates, and I don't think it lands the shift to genuine empathy quite as cleanly as it could. It reminded me of Putnam/Spelling, both in good and bad ways - the lineup of quirky teens and the bleak undercurrent, but there's something about Cyclone that feels a little too fabricated and careful. Even Constance stopping the show for her virginity speech felt overly considered - as genuine as some of what she says felt, it was undercut by being led into a frenetic number that felt like it only sort of matched the content, and most of which I couldn't understand due to the noise issue.

Despite my endless crabbing, I enjoyed it overall. I guess I just wish it were more self-assuredly weird. There were so many great bits peppered throughout, but it didn't feel like it earned its own zaniness - let it be scarier and sadder first.

I noticed there was an (new?) opening number as it’s in he video put out by ACT, but looking at some older videos was the original opening number the song about their hometown Urainium? Not sure if it had a title, but it went thru a small history of the town then went into Karnak feeling sorry about giving them misleading fortunes.

If there was, I wasn't particularly missing it, you get enough information about the town throughout the rest of the show.

I saw this yesterday and agree with everything Charley Kringas Inc wrote.  There were definite sound issues with the theatre being so small.  I, too, had a tough time deciphering lyrics in some of the songs.  I did really enjoy it though - it felt to me like something I would see at a Fringe - which is a compliment.  I like Fringe productions.  I kept trying to figure out how this would transfer to Broadway and can't really see it happening in its present form.

I would also agree that the surprise of the show was Emily Rohm (Jane Doe).  What a beautiful voice and I loved her ballad.  Also Kholby Wardell (Noel Gruber) was a standout for me.   Lillian Castillo (Constance) is a force! She has great comedic timing.  I can't wait to see her in something where she can really unleash that voice!   I look forward to that.

It was a fun 90 minutes in the theatre, and was exactly what I thought it would be.  I'm super happy that I got to see this.

The Seattle run ended last night. Any word on a transfer or recording?

I'd imagine at this point they'll wait to record a cast album for when it's the OBCR, unless they don't plan on transferring. But since someone had the interest to remount it after off-broadway in Seattle, and then have them change things there, I'd imagine they'll want it to come in. I really hope it does.

Tiffany Tatreau is performing a song from the show at alliance theatre, so I wonder if that will be the same production/cast as the previous incarnations.

Only slightly off-topic: I saw early previews of Ride the Cyclone at the Lortel and thought Taylor Louderman was absolutely fine. Can anyone share the specific reason(s) she did not remain with the show? I’ve been wondering ever since.

It was some dispute between her and the creative team. Like the director wanted her to do the exact same thing as the actress in Chicago and she felt she wasn’t given enough freedom to make it her own.

That’s not true. She was fired. Two days before opening. Director never wanted her in the first place and began working against her. Taylor admits it was a very heartbreaking experience.

I really like this show. And I’m a pretty harsh critic. I’ve seen it in Chicago, NY and Seattle.  I think it’s had great casts, enjoyable music and a really weird, but unique concept. Some great dark humor with some all-out laughs. I can see how it’s not for everyone, and it does resemble elements of other shows, but I always have a great time. According to cast member posts, they are also keeping fingers crossed for a cast recording and more productions, but no set plans, other than Alliance next year.

There’s another production playing in Atlanta in the spring. I don’t know if it’s the same one that has been going around, but I assume it is.

I just saw the Alliance production in Atlanta.

From what video snippits I've seen, it appears to be the same production, with a mostly different cast. But it was MUCH more polished. Every performance was Broadway caliber.

The set pieces and some lighting appear to have made it through as well. There may have been some I provements, unless Jane Doe did her song on really impressive flying wires and the "passion" song about the online girlfriend used tons of creative projections onto white clothing.

No sign of a cast recording that I saw, sadly. I absolutely loved the show.

Same core cast (only Ricky and Mischa played by local actors). Leora Morris gets Directing credit, probably due to the amount of changes that has happened since Rockwell passed.

God I hope this at least puts out a cast recording. Is Kevin McCollum still attached as the commercial producer?

Just recently came across a couple months old Instagram posts that indicate they recorded an album for the show. Seems like they used the core four(the four who stuck around with each production). Wasn’t able to find any photos of who could’ve recorded the parts of the other two male characters. Hope this comes out soon!
