Theatre Tuscaloosa Kicks Off 18-19 Season With FOREVER PLAID

Theatre Tuscaloosa will present Stuart Ross, James Raitt and Gene Wolsk's Forever Plaid September 7-16, 2018 in the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College (9500 Old Greensboro Rd).

Four young men who were destined to perform at the airport Hilton cocktail bar, "The Fusel-Lounge," had their lives cut short by an unfortunate car accident on the way to their first big gig. This comedic musical follows the mystical journey of the "Plaids," four dorky guys with big dreams and a passion to harmonize. After the accident, the Plaids are stuck in limbo, but a phenomenon of "astro-technical" proportions gives the group a second chance to come back to perform one final concert featuring songs like "Crazy 'Bout You Baby," "16 Tons," and "Three Coins in the Fountain." This show will take audiences back to the good ole days with its array of popular juke box tunes and classic 60s lingo.

"Forever Plaid will be the most difficult show I've been a part of," said Alex Freeman, who plays Frankie. "Being a four-person cast, we sing in every song. There is no intermission, so it's a whirlwind from start to finish! I can't wait to get the show on its feet."

Freeman will be joined on stage by Jacob Abbott, Parker Reeves and Colton Crowe. Jack Skeean is serving as the understudy for all four performers.

The production team includes Stacy Alley, director/choreographer; Terry Moore, musical director; Andy Fitch, scenic designer; Erin Hisey, lighting designer; Jeanette Waterman, costume designer; and Charles Prosser, stage manager.

Theatre Tuscaloosa's 2018-2019 season is supported by Shelton State Community College, the City of Tuscaloosa, the Alabama State Council on the Arts, Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Inc., WVUA23, and Tuscaloosa Radio. The Play-It-Forward sponsor of Forever Plaid is Warrior Roofing.

Forever Plaid will be presented September 7-16, 2018. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays; Fridays; and Saturday, September 8. Matinee performances will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays; Wednesday; and Saturday, September 15.

Tickets are $16 for students and children, $20 for seniors, Shelton State employees, and members of the military, and $24 for adults. A pay-what-you-can final dress rehearsal will be presented on Thursday, September 6 at 7:30 p.m., proceeds of which will benefit the Charlie Dennis Memorial Scholarship Fund.

This show is suitable for all audiences.

Season tickets for the 2018-19 Season will be available through Sept. 16. Subscriptions are offered at a 15% discount over individual show prices, and subscribers receive a variety of special benefits including unlimited free exchanges.
