ACTFest To Feature Eight Shows From Seven Cities In Three Days

Theatre Tuscaloosa will host the Alabama Conference of Theatre's annual Community Theatre Festival (ACTFest) November 2-4 in the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College (9500 Old Greensboro Rd).

ACTFest gives community theatre artists from across the state an opportunity to showcase their work and the potential to earn a place at the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC) Community Theatre Festival. Participating companies prepare a 60-minute (maximum) performance, which may be an entire one-act play or a cutting or selection from a full-length play.

Each company must fit all its scenery and props into a 10-foot by 10-foot square before its performance. The rules require companies to set up during a 10-minute window, perform during a 60-minute window, and breakdown and return their sets to their 10 by 10 squares during a final 10-minute strike window. Three independent adjudicators then review each performance and ultimately determine which productions will go on to represent Alabama at SETC (February 27-March 3, 2019, in Knoxville, TN).

This year, adjudicators at SETC may pass up to two productions on to the American Association of Community Theatre's National Community Theatre Festival (AACTFest), which is only held every-other year. AACTFest 2019 will be held June 18-22 in Gettysburg, PA.

This year's ACTFest will feature eight performances by eight community theatres from seven cities:

Friday, November 2

7:10 p.m. - Theatre Tuscaloosa: God of Carnage

8:40 p.m. - Spark Theatre Company, Inc. (Dothan): The Theory of Relativity

Saturday, November 3

1:40 p.m. - The Actor's Charitable Theatre (Tuscaloosa): Of Mice and Men

3:05 p.m. - Auburn Area Community Theatre: Silent Sky

5:40 p.m. - South City Theatre (Pelham): Love, Loss, and What I Wore

7:30 p.m. - Wetumpka Depot Theatre: The Diviners

Sunday, November 4

11:10 a.m. - ACE Performing Arts Center (Loxley): Little Women

12:40 p.m. - Prattville's Way Off Broadway Theatre: Driving Miss Daisy

All performances are open to the general public. Tickets to individual performances will be $7.00. Discounted multi-show day-passes will be available. Friday's and Sunday's day-passes will include two performances and cost $10 each. Saturday's day-pass will cost $20 and include four performances. A full weekend pass will also be offered for $36, which will include all eight performances and admission to the festival's hospitality room where complimentary refreshments will be available throughout the festival.

To protect the integrity of the performance and adjudication process, no one will be admitted after each performance starts. Audience members are therefore strongly encouraged to arrive at least 30 minutes early in case there are last-minute adjustments to the performance schedule and/or unanticipated traffic or other delays. Tickets and passes are non-refundable.

Paid members of the Alabama Conference of Theatre (ACT) will be admitted to all performances at no additional charge. ACT members and participating companies will also have access to a series of seven educational workshops about various aspects of theatrical production and the hospitality room.
