When going into a theatre to see a brand new musical, it is very difficult to know what exactly you are going to get.  Are you going to want to linger and hope there is more, or are you going to be hunting furiously for the exit?  I am happy to say that the world premier INDIGO now playing at the Human Race Theatre Company was the first of the two.  I love theatre but it isn’t often that I leave a show contemplating purchasing tickets for a return visit.  I still haven’t ruled it out.

What did our critic think of SLEUTH at LaComedia Dinner Theatre? SLEUTH, written by Anthony Shaffer, won the Tony Award for best play in 1971. Many may remember the movie adaptations, in 1972 and 2007, both of which incidentally starred Michael Caine. It begins with an evening at the home of Andrew Wyke as he plays host to his wife's lover, Milo Tindle. What follows are many twists and turns as Andrew and Milo try to outwit and outmaneuver each other to see who will come out on top. A few incidental characters round out the action and you will never know where the next turn will take you.

Thanks to everyone for sticking with me as I work out the kinks of writing a weekly column.  With everything going on in the world, it has been a little difficult.  I think for the time being, I am going to move to a biweekly format until there is more to write about.  Hopefully, things will pick up soon.  If you have anything going on, please email me at bwwdaytonjenni@ gmail.com or you can contact me via messenger on our Dayton On Stage facebook page.

So sorry that I am running late on the column this week.  It has been a very emotional week, not only for me, but for many Daytonians as it was the anniversary of the shooting in the Oregon District, unquestionably one of the most difficult times in our citya??s history.  It has been hard to think of much else but trying to shake it off and focus on how Dayton is moving forward.  I would love to be in a theatre right now, energized the performances and the audience. As cheesy as it  sounds, theatre is what feeds my soul, and I am feeling a little weak without it.  Fortunately, there are some upcoming virtual events to help us all on our journey without live theatre.

It has been great to see such a positive response to my new column.  I am looking forward to the day when we can all get back to our normal theatre lives and I can have an abundance of information to reflect the rich theatre community here in the Dayton area.

With the current state of theatre in the world and in Dayton, I have been struggling to come up with ideas for things to write.  Honestly, we all know it has been completely depressing and we all want things to get back to normal - to be able to see a show, to be on stage, to be behind the scenes again.  The coronavirus has other plans and I am not sure when things will ever be completely back to normal or what a new normal might look like.  So, it came to me. I am going to start a weekly column here on Broadway World Dayton.
