BWW Review: LES MISERABLES is Victorious at Aronoff Center
February 14, 2020

Almost every season there is a classic, crowd-pleasing favorite where the audience sighs with relief and nostalgia at the first measure the orchestra plays. this was most definitely the case with LES MISERABLES, running through Feb. 23 at the Aronoff Center. The sigh, however, does not come without reason. Shows like Les Misérables feel like a warm hug or coming home for a theatre patron, but this company is breathing new life into the old classic.

BWW Interview: Analisa Leaming Talks HELLO, DOLLY! On Tour

Analisa Leaming has been traveling the country the past year with 'ribbons down her back' as Irene Malloy in the national tour of HELLO, DOLLY! Before taking HELLO, DOLLY! on the road, Leaming understudied the role in the recent Broadway revival and celebrated 600 shows with the classic musical a few weeks ago. In addition to Dolly, you may have seen her on Broadway as Anna in Lincoln Center's revival of The King and I, Rosalie Mullins in School of Rock, or Anita in On the Twentieth Century.

If you have ever taken a piano lesson or tried to learn any kind of instrument, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park's '2 Pianos, 4 Hands' will bring back all the nostalgia of those hours spent begrudgingly practicing and praying that you'll magically know how to play those certain cords if you stare at the instrument long enough. Ted Dykstra and Richard Greenblatt's autobiographical play follows their journey with classical piano from their very first piano lessons to their duet concert performance, and everything in between.

I'll be the first to admit that when I read the show blurb for Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park's 'Alias Grace,' I was a little anxious and hesitant about seeing it. I knew the talent would be through the roof, and the production quality would be extraordinary, as always, but it was the subject matter that I feared. I am an absolute wimp when it comes to thrillers and murder mysteries. Yet, I spent the entire play on the edge of my seat, thoroughly enjoying myself and mourning the end when the lights came up.
