Arts Centre Melbourne Presents Roald Dahl's GEORGE'S MARVELLOUS MEDICINE

Roald Dahl's much-loved book George's Marvellous Medicine will be brought to life at Arts Centre Melbourne's Playhouse from 25 - 29 September as part of a national tour. Dahl's classic tale bounds off the page and onto the stage in a spectacular live show for all ages.

The critically-acclaimed production by the award-winning shake & stir theatre co is the story of a young boy and his Grandma, who complains all the time, is mean and smells funny. What starts as just another boring day for George quickly turns into a marvellous experiment of epic proportions! Wanting to put an end to her constant nagging, George creates a special medicine, greater than any medicine in the history of the world. What he doesn't expect is that this medicine may actually work.

Packed to the rafters with mischief, music, magic and giant laughs, the stage adaptation is the work of the award-winning team behind the multi-Helpmann Award nominated Australian production of Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes & Dirty Beasts.

Shake & stir theatre co's mainstage work has included the Australian premiere of Green Day's American Idiot (2017 Helpmann Award nominations - Best Lighting Design, Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical), Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes & Dirty Beasts (2016 Helpmann Award nominations - Best Presentation for Children and Best Regional Touring Production) and Dracula (2016 Matilda Awards - Best Set Design and Best Lighting Design).

Director Ross Balbuziente said he was thrilled to bring another iconic Roald Dahl work to life.

"George's Marvellous Medicine was an absolute favourite of mine as a kid and still remains one of my cherished childhood books. Our aim is to get kids of all ages to laugh as hard as they ever have before; after all, laughter is the best medicine,' Balbuziente said.

"It's a rocketing surprise-filled, hilarious adventure featuring some of our country's best physical and comic actors."

Roald Dahl was an author, spy, an ace fighter pilot, a chocolate historian and a medical inventor. He was also the author of George's Marvellous Medicine, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The BFG, and a treasury of original, evergreen, and beloved children's books. He remains for many the world's No. 1 storyteller.
