Atlanta Lyric Theatre presents this timeless musical love story August 17-September 2, 2018. Winner of 4 Tony Awards in 2000, AIDA is an epic tale of love, loyalty and betrayal set against the back top of ancient Egypt. AIDA features music alive with passion by the great Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice as well as a book by Tony Award-winning playwright, David Henry Hwang, Linda Woolverton and Robert Falls. AIDA chronicles the story of an enslaved Nubian princess stolen from her country, Amneris, an Egyptian princess, and Radames, the soldier they both love. As the forbidden love between Aida and Radames grows, Aida is forced to weigh her heart against the responsibility that she faces as the leader of her people. With a youthful, diverse cast of Atlanta's brightest, AIDA, promises to be a moving a beautiful night of theatre audiences will not be soon to forget.

In the title role of Aida is young Atlanta rising star, India Tyree. TYREE most recently appeared in Serenbe Playhouse's TITANIC, but made waves earlier this year with her portrayal of Sebastian in their production of THE LITTLE MERMAID. TYREE has been seen onstage at the Alliance, The Shakespeare Tavern and the Aurora Theatre where she apprenticed. A passionate vocalist and songwriter, TYREE is also an independent recording artist. She makes her Lyric debut in AIDA.

Haden Rider plays RADAMES, after most recently being seen onstage at the Lyric as Jesus in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. RIDER has very quickly made a name for himself as a golden voiced tenor with boundless energy with roles like Quasimodo in Aurora Theatre's THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME and Sebastian in THE THING ABOUT MEN, a premiere production with the Wallace Buice Theatre Company.

After her turn as Belle in the Lyric's production of BEAUTY and the BEAST, young, upcoming ingenue, LAUREN HILL returns to play AMNERIS. HILL is a junior BFA Acting Majro at Brenau University.

The cast also features Christopher Kent (Million Dollar Quartet, The Producers, Buddy Holly) Brian Jordan, Jr. (Dreamgirls, The Color Purple-Nat'l Tour, Once on this Island), MATTHEW MORRIS (The Full Monty, Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Miserables) and an magnificent ensemble of dancers.

Director TAYLOR BUICE makes his directing debut with the Lyric after creating his own company, The Wallace Buice Theatre Company, last year. Lyric audiences may remember BUICE as a performer from his moving turn as Judas in last season's JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. He is joined by Music Director Christian Magby and choreographer BUBBA CARR.

AIDA, is the opening show of the Lyric's 39th Season. It is followed by NEWSIES (collaboration with Aurora Theatre), THE WEDDING SINGER, SINGIN' in the RAIN, OLIVER and a all new Holiday Spectacular, The Lyric Presents YOUR HAPPY HOLIDAY.
