Core Dance will continue its collaboration with international dance-makers Niv Sheinfeld and Oren Laor when it presents two works by the acclaimed Israeli choreographers: American Playground, a humorous, high-intensity homage to American culture, performed by Core Dance; and the U.S. Premiere of The Third Dance, performed and choreographed by Sheinfeld and Laor, that explores, through dance, the evolution of a relationship over time. The performances are January 31 - February 3, 2019 at 7:30 pm at 7 Stages in Atlanta. Tickets are $20 and are available online at coredance.org.

Approximately one hour in length, American Playground, is an active collaboration between Niv Sheinfeld and Oren Laor and Core Dance, and is a humorous and multi-faceted representation of what it "looks like" and "feels like" to be American. Infused in the performance are the games of an American childhood including tag, "Duck, Duck, Goose," and other distinctly American experiences. Woven into the choreography, are improvised sequences and songs that showcase the diverse talents of the Core Dance Artists. The work takes the audience in unexpected directions and pushes the limits of modern dance. (SEE A VIDEO CLIP)

In 2012, Sheinfeld and Laor embarked on a reconstruction of Nir Ben Gal and Liat Dror's iconic Two Room Apartment, a duet that shocked audiences when it premiered 26 years ago because of its erotic nude scene and its minimalist aesthetic. Two Room Apartment won several awards and became a seminal work in Israel. Sheinfeld and Laor re-envisioned this piece for two men, "and examined the delicate balance of all relationships where power struggles, personal boundaries, identity, and rhythm are a constant dance." (Dance Israel). The Third Dance, which is receiving its U.S. premiere in these performances, and stars the real-life couple, is the continuing story of Two Room Apartment, and examines, through dance, the evolution of a relationship over time. Niv Sheinfeld and Oren Laor's works are marked by simple, stripped-down staging, without costumes and sets, and focus on the explorations of personal relationships and issues of identity. Audiences will also get a chance to attend a conversation with choreographers Niv Sheinfeld and Oren Laor on January 27, 2019 from 1:00-3:00pm. The conversation, called "Body as Resistance: Fueling the Spectator with Power and Motivation," is facilitated by Heidi Howard, Artistic Director of 7 Stages, and investigates the potential of art to trigger and inspire activism in the audience. Free and open to the public.
