Strand Theater Presents THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE TELEVISED, BUT STAGED

The Strand Theater Company presents The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, But Staged, a collaboratively crafted production by women in the Baltimore community.

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, But Staged is part of the Strand Theater Company's ongoing series of workshops and performances dedicated to empowering women to tell their own stories. Using the template of consciousness-raising groups that sprung out of the Women's Movement, The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, But Staged creates a safe space for women-identified participants to find strength and community through sharing personal narratives.

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, But Staged decentralizes the hierarchal power relationships usually found in traditional theater productions. Each workshop participant has served as the director of their own show and each story has been created with the input of the entire ensemble. The performance, crafted over the course of forty-eight hours, is an intimate, raw, and a wholly feminist selection of stories representing the individual perspectives of each group member. Audience members are encouraged to join in the feminist festivities and warm-up with the artist-participants before the show, shout, dance, and drink wine.

"The Introductory Women's Performance Workshop might be one of the most creatively and emotionally fulfilling experiences I've ever had. I was so impressed with the level of vulnerability in the room, and everyone was so supportive of each other: I think we all craved a kind of sisterhood that we found there." - Sarah Weissman

"The Women's Performance Workshop is a catalyst for bringing to life the imaginations of diverse women. From the cradle to the great beyond, your emotions will be taken on a fantastic journey. Come and enjoy the ride." - Shelley Jennings

This project is made possible by Mayor Catherine E. Pugh and the Baltimore Office of Promotion and The Arts and a generous grant from Engaged Cornell.

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, But Staged continues the Strand's 11th consecutive production season that has featured powerful works by female playwrights Marsha Norman ('Night, Mother) and Dominique Morisseau (Detroit '67) to date. The Spring 2019 lineup of the Strand productions will be announced in December 2018.

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, But Staged performance will feature Baltimore community members Alex Hewett, Amy Hecht-Zizes, Beth Terrence, Cindy Bledsoe, Danaye, Emily Mullin, Hilary Sigismondi, Imuetinyan Ugiagbe. Jasmine L. Blanks Jones, Mabelle Fomundam, Morgan Elease, Natalie Dent, Rita Walters, Sarah Weissman, Shelley Jennings, Tricia Theis Rogalski, Tristeza Duncan

The Strand Theater Company champions challenging and provocative theater that especially celebrates women's diverse voices and perspectives while bringing together the creative talents of both women and men as artists, technicians, and administrators. We invite patrons to experience some of the region's best contemporary and reinterpreted works for the stage in our intimate midtown theater in Baltimore, Maryland.
