AILEY II Returns For A One-Night-Only Columbus Performance Now touring as part of the "Ailey Ascending" 60th anniversary celebration, the world-renowned dance company Ailey II will present a one-night-only Columbus performance at the Davidson Theatre on Tuesday, November 6. The critically acclaimed, 12-member ensemble will inspire audiences with performances of Darrell Grand Moultrie's Road To One; a new commission by South African-born choreographer Bradley Shelver, Where There Are Tongues; and Alvin Ailey's signature masterpiece, Revelations.

CAPA presents Ailey II at the Davidson Theatre (77 S. High St.) on Tuesday, November 6, at 8 pm. Tickets are $21.50-$40 at the CAPA Ticket Center (39 E. State St.), all Ticketmaster outlets, and www.ticketmaster.com. To purchase tickets by phone, please call (614) 469-0939 or (800) 745-3000.

Critically acclaimed for their stirring performances, Ailey II's brilliant young dancers have captivated audiences for more than four decades. Led by Artistic Director Troy Powell, the company brings Alvin Ailey's timeless classics and thrilling new works by outstanding emerging choreographers to cities across the country and internationally. With powerful performances rooted in a steadfast creative vision, Ailey II brings a fresh dimension to the Ailey spirit.

Handpicked by Powell, the Ailey II dancers travel year-round to share their "off-the-charts energy" (The New Yorker) with audiences around the world, performing new works and returning classics.

Darrell Grand Moultrie's Road To One passionately embraces the journey we all take to find meaning in our lives and eventually pass it on to the next generation. Inspired by a mentor who introduced him to the arts at a young age, Moultrie pays it forward with the Ailey II dancers, creating a high-energy ensemble work that uses elegant, modern movement with a contemporary edge. The musical score features an eclectic range of artists, including Ezio Bosso, Kinjey Bunchens, Monica Chuchi, Oliver Davis, and Spark.

South African-born Bradley Shelver's high-energy Where There Are Tongues is inspired by the idea that we are all in this world together, succeeding or failing as a collective. The rhythmically complex music, by French a cappella group Lo Còr De La Plana, couples with Shelver's quirky style to make dance theatre that will set pulses racing.

Since its creation in 1960, Revelations has consistently enraptured audiences all over the world with the perfect blend of reverent grace and spiritual elation. Alvin Ailey's signature masterpiece pays homage to and reflects the cultural heritage of the African-American, what Ailey thought of as one of America's richest treasures - "sometimes sorrowful, sometimes jubilant, but always hopeful."

Ailey II - Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's Second Company - is universally renowned for merging the spirit and energy of the country's best young dance talent with the passion and creative vision of today's most outstanding emerging choreographers. Founded in 1974 as a bridge between The Ailey School and the professional dance world, Ailey II embodies Alvin Ailey's pioneering mission to establish an extended cultural community that provides dance performances, training, and community programs for all people. Ailey II flourished into one of the most popular dance companies in the country under the leadership of Sylvia Waters from 1974-2012, combining a rigorous touring schedule with extensive community outreach programs. With Artistic Director Troy Powell at the helm, Ailey II continues to thrive as he brings a fresh dimension to this beloved company.
