BWW Previews: STEEL MAGNOLIAS at Albuquerque Little Theatre

Albuquerque Little Theatre ventures to the South with its upcoming production of Steel Magnolias. The play, written by Robert Harling, is based on his real-life experiences growing up in Louisiana and the twists and turns life can take. The plot of this comedy-drama revolves around the lives of six women in Chinquapin, Lousiana. Steel Magnolias opens April 20th and runs through May 6th.

In Steel Magnolias, Truvy Jones runs a successful beauty salon where all the ladies in the neighborhood have a standing Saturday appointment. Along with assistant, Annelle, Truvy styles the hair of many of the women about town, including a wealthy widow and former first lady of Chinquapin, Clairee Belcher; local curmudgeon Ouiser Boudreaux; the intelligent and compassionate career woman M'Lynn; and her daughter Shelby, who is thought of as the prettiest girl in town. During the play, the town's excitement for Shelby's engagement and upcoming wedding quickly turns to concern when it's revealed she faces a risky pregnancy and a myriad of health complications. It is the strong friendships of these six women of Chinquapin that help them support each another through the difficulties in their lives.

Albuqueruqe Little Theatre's production of Steel Magnolias is directed by Pete Parkin and stars Zoey Reese as Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie , Rachael Pernice as Annelle Dupuy-Desoto, Jill Novick as Truvy Jones, Samantha Blauwkamp as Clairee Belcher, Lorri Oliver as M'Lynn Eatenton, and Marueen Conheady-Trujillo as Ouiser Boudreaux.

Steel Magnolias opens April 20th and runs through May 6th, with performances on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
