#FIRSTWORLDWHITEGIRLS: SPIRIT ANIMAL To Target Wellness Gurus At Adelaide Fringe

Brisbane comediennes #FirstWorldWhiteGirls are taking aim at wellness gurus in their brand new show Spirit Animal, heading to Adelaide Fringe in March.

The one-hour comedy cabaret is a satire of first world privilege, revolving around Tiffany (Judy Hainsworth) and Madison (Kyra Thompson), two rich white girls and newly self-appointed wellness gurus.

"Wellness instagrammers are the worst," says Judy Hainsworth, who wrote the show. "It's some twenty-something whose waist is as thick as my arm posting pictures of her organic, home-made multi-layered flaxseed smoothie in her flawless pastel kitchen."

The show features original songs written by Hainsworth, who has just finished a Queensland tour of comedy cabaret Happily Ever After. Musical director and arranger is Luke Volker, fresh from Little Match Production's Owl and the Pussycat.

#FirstWorldWhiteGirls also features a brand new cast member, Kyra Thompson, who has just graduated from Musical Theatre at the Queensland Conservatorium. "I play Tiffany's bestie, Madison. She is a famous youtuber so that gives us the chance to make fun of that whole 'hustle'."

Director Lewis Jones says, "The show also points out the hypocrisy of these wellness gurus who claim they're helping others reach their goals, saving the planet etc, but it all leads back to 'click here to buy my e-book'."

Judy adds, "These self-proclaimed experts can also be dangerous - telling people not to wear sunscreen or vaccinate their kids. Or when Gwyneth Paltrow told women to steam their vaginas. A whole heap of doctors spoke up and said, Um, actually, no - don't do that. Shut up Gwyneth!"

#FirstWorldWhiteGirls' previous show Botox Party! had sold out seasons at Adelaide Fringe Festival and Brisbane Comedy Festival. Following Adelaide Fringe, Spirit Animal will do a season at Brisbane Comedy Festival followed by a Queensland tour.
