Concerts@KentTown Presents Guitarist Caleb Lavery-Brook And Organist Ray Booth

Beautiful music performed by talented musicians is the aim of Concerts@ Kent Town and this standard of excellence continues with the third Concerts@Kent Town at 2pm Wednesday 19 September at Wesley Church, Cnr Fullarton Road and Grenfell Street, Kent Town. Tickets at the door are only $15 which includes a generous afternoon tea.

For this third concert Concerts@KentTown welcome back acclaimed organist Ray Booth and outstanding guitarist Caleb Lavery-Brook who became a firm favourite with our audience last year.

Caleb Lavery-Brook is an extremely talented young classical guitarist who is currently undertaking his Postgraduate studies at the ElderConservatorium of Music.

Caleb was the soloist at the Inaugural International Guitar Festival Summer School in Adelaide at the beginning of 2016. He has had masterclasses and private lessons with many noted Australian and International guitar virtuosi including Slava Grigoryan (Australia), Gary Ryan (United Kingdom), Ricardo Gallèn (Germany), Jane Curry (New Zealand), and others in Europe, Asia and South America.

In 2014 and 2016 Caleb performed in the Adelaide Guitar Festival and in 2017 performed at the 3rd Korean International Guitar Festival.

Caleb was the winner of the open age classical guitar category of the Adelaide Eisteddfod in 2015, 2017 and 2018. In 2017, he also won the open age, open instrument category of the Balaklava Eisteddfod along with becoming a finalist in the SA final of the Young Virtuoso Awards. At the Adelaide Guitar Festival Winter School 2017, he was mentored by Paul Svoboda and was given the opportunity to conduct the guitar orchestra at the final concert.

Caleb's program for this year's concert at Wesley will include works by Houghton, Villa-Lobos, JS Bach and Giuliani

A well-known and popular figure in organ music in Adelaide is organist Raymond Booth who makes a welcome return to Concerts@KentTown.

Raymond Booth was born in New Zealand. He was introduced to music at an early age, first as a choir boy, then as an organist. He studied piano though his high school years, while accompanying a 30 strong church choir on a harmonium. He continued as a church organist while studying mathematics at university, leading ultimately to a doctorate at the University of British Columbia in Canada.

In 1969, he accepted a position as a lecturer in mathematics at Flinders University in South Australia, a position from which he retired in 2007. Meanwhile, he was Director of Music at the Clayton-Wesley Church, Norwood, from 1974-1987, and Director of Music at St David's Church Burnside, both 1969-1972, and since 1988 to the present day.

Other recent musical activities have included accompanying the Adelaide Harmony choir, playing continuo for chamber music ensembles, and accompanying various solo singers and/or instrumentalists. He is currently Chairman of the Royal School of Church Music, SA Branch.

Ray's program will feature works by Clérambault, Franck, Wright, Roe, Rawsthorne and Cook.
